FRANKLINVILE N.C. - A vehicle accident on Thursday evening on US Hwy 64 near Foxfire Rd claimed the life of one person with a second person being airlifted with life-threatening injuries. Just after 5 pm on Thursday, June 8th, 2023, emergency crews along with Randolph County EMS and Ash-Rand Rescue responded to the report of a crash that occurred on US 64 at Andrew Hunter Road in Randolph County. FRANKLINVILLE N.C. - A local woman died from injuries sustained in a single vehicle accident in Franklinville last week. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, at 7:48 p.m. on Friday, May 12th, 2023, Troopers responded to the report of a crash that occurred on Clark Avenue near Allred Street in Randolph County. Kaslyn Marie Switzer, of Asheboro, N.C., was traveling east on Clark Avenue operating a 2014 Toyota. Troopers who investigated the scene reported that Switzer traveled off the roadway to the right and struck a tree. Switzer suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was transported to Moses H. FRANKLINVILLE N.C. - A head on collision on US 64 claimed the life of a Franklinville resident on Wednesday afternoon. Just after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10th, 2023, emergency crews responded to a vehicle crash on US 64 near Iron Mountain Road. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Wanda Cox Allred, 74, of Franklinville, N.C., was traveling west on US 64 operating a 2019 Honda CR-V when a driver of a 2006 Mercedes Benz crossed the centerline, striking her vehicle head-on. ASHEBORO N.C. - A call about a suspicious vehicle turned into a pursuit that ended with a teen in jail facing a list of felony charges. On May 5th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to the area of Allred St. and West Main St., Franklinville, for a report of a suspicious vehicle. The caller provided a description of the occupants of the vehicle who had pulled over and were walking in the area. When deputies arrived, they spotted a male subject standing on the passenger side of the vehicle. "When the deputy turned on the vehicle spotlights, the male ran around the vehicle, entered the driver’s seat and drove off. Duke Energy, in a statement on its outage tracker says that due to extremely cold temperatures driving unusually high energy demand, the power company has deployed temporary power outages across the system. These emergency outages, also known as "rolling blackouts" are necessary "to protect the energy grid against longer, more widespread outages by keeping demand under control to prevent systems from tripping offline. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly tried to set a house on fire in Franklinville. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on July 31, 2022, deputies responded with the Franklinville Fire Department to a report of a house fire on W. Main St. in Franklinville. The Sheriff's Office says their deputies received information that a Hispanic male subject in a red shirt, approached the residence with a gas can, and set the residence on fire. They were able to identify that male as Evelio Pinales, who was later located and arrested at his residence. Pinales was charged with one count of felony second degree arson. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man has been arrested on and charged with multiple felony assault charges after the Sheriff's office says they were called to a stabbing last Friday in Franklinville. On July 23, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to the area of Rockie River Street and US Hwy 64 E, in Franklinville, responding to a 9-1-1 caller stating that someone had been assaulted. Once deputies, Randolph County EMS and Franklinville Fire Department arrived on scene, it was determined that the victim was suffering from numerous injuries, including a stab wound. In a post on Facebook on July 14th 2022, the town announced that the 2022 Trunk or Treat will be held at Riverside Park on Monday, October 31st from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Officials are asking for help from the community, "We need as many trunks/candy as possible. Please bring your ”trunk” and help us give out candy! ASHEBORO N.C. - Two separate homeowners caught burglary suspects red handed before they tried to flee and were arrested by police. On April 18, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to McNeal St, in Asheboro for a report of a burglary in progress. Deputies say when they arrived the victim reported they arrived home to find a female inside the master bedroom of the home. The female suspect, whom the Sheriff’s Office identified as Traci Underwood Andrews, reportedly jumped from the bedroom window and fled on foot to ablack truck and tried to drive off through the yard but wrecked in a ditch on McMasters St. Police say they located the vehicle with Andrews still sitting inside.
