Randolph County friends and those in neighboring communities, we hope you will join us Saturday, September 30th at Creekside Park in Archdale, NC for the first annual 2morrow Needs You 5K for suicide awareness. Runners & walkers of all kinds are welcome!
Founded by Kenzi Reddick & Lauren Hedrick in memory of Chad Everett Reid & Sammy Kaye Weavil, victims of suicide and loved ones of ours. Between both of these men were many titles and roles, but the most important to us were Dad & Papaw.
This is a mission so dear to our hearts, yet a commonality between us we wish we didn’t have. The concept of suicide is complex, difficult to accept, life altering for everyone involved , and is often led up to by many unaddressed mental health factors beyond our control. This was the case for Kenzi’s Dad and Lauren’s Papaw, too. Chad struggled with drug & alcohol addiction for years and Sammy had a hearing disease that impacted every aspect of his adult life, both of which led to their severe depression. Their life struggles compiled & compacted the pressure they felt to find peace & relief, leaving behind friends and families of broken hearts and questions until we see them again.
We know their last moments must have been filled with feelings of emptiness, sadness and a struggle they felt they couldn’t overcome, but we want to ensure their legacy lives on and that the good in them is remembered, too – because despite their struggles, there was so much good. Those who have lost someone to suicide know that suicide does not discriminate. We come into contact with people every single day who are fighting these same internal battles, and the worst thing we can do is ignore it, not talk about it, and not support those in the thick of it. It’s our humanitarian obligation to help others see their worth when they are incapable of seeing it themselves.
Proceeds for this year’s run will be distributed between the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention AFSP, The Fellowship Hall of Greensboro, and the American Hearing Research Foundation to support Meniere’s Disease research.
