ASHEBORO — A shooting overnight left a 16-year-old in the hospital with a gunshot wound and police searching a second 16-year-old suspect. Friday night around 9:30 p.m., officers with the Asheboro Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of North Asheboro Park on Canoy Drive. ASHEBORO N.C. – Authorities are searching for a suspect vehicle that fled the scene after being involved in a collision on US 64 in Randolph County Wednesday evening, leaving another driver seriously injured. According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13th, 2024, troopers responded to the report of a crash that occurred on US 64 near Westbury Drive in Randolph County. Investigators say that a black 2017 Lexus RX 350 SUV traveling east, unlawfully passed a 2016 Toyota passenger car in a turning lane, resulting in a collision that sent the Toyota off the roadway to the right, striking an embankment, and a tree. Just after 5 p.m. Randolph County 9-1-1 received multiple calls about several vehicles involved in a collision on I-73/74 near the Sunset Ave exit. Asheboro Fire and Rescue and Westside Fire Departments were dispatched and located two accident scenes. Two vehicles, including one overturned blocking both lanes of travel, were located on I-73/74 at the West Presnell Street exit. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, on the morning of February 16th, 2024, it was reported to Eastern Randolph High School’s School Resource Officer that a juvenile student was on campus with a firearm on their person. The School Resource Officer located the juvenile and searched the juvenile locating a firearm, which was secured without incident and was determined to be unloaded. ASHEBORO N.C. - Police are investigating a fire at an Asheboro home that left one person dead. According to the Asheboro Police Department, on January 23rd, 2024, at around 3:30pm, officers were dispatched to 308 South Park Street at the request of the Asheboro Fire Department. When officers arrived, they learned the victim was sitting in a wheelchair on the front porch of a residence when a fire started in, or around, the wheelchair.  The victim was transported to a local medical facility where he died from his injuries.  Officers identified the individual as Roman Aleksander Stobnicki and say detectives from the department’s Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the case to determine the origins of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the inciden...

Fire at the Worthville Mill in Randleman. (PJ Ward-Brown / North State Journal) RANDLEMAN N.C. - Fire crews from across Randolph County are working to control a fire at the old Worthville Mill on Russell Walker Ave in Randleman as well as a woods fire near Worthville Beach. At 3:57 p.m. fire crews from several departments were dispatched to the Worthville Mill, located at 216 Russell Walker Ave in Randleman for a commercial structure fire.
