ASHEBORO — No one was injured and one person was arrested after shots rang out in an Asheboro neighborhood last night. According to a press release from the Asheboro Police Department, on Friday May 24th, at around 7:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of S. Church St. and W. Wainman Ave. after receiving reports of an armed person and gunshots in the area. 9-1-1 callers and witnesses were able to provide a detailed description and location of the suspect and when officers arrived in the area, they say they observed the suspect running on W. Wainman Ave. behind a business. After a short foot pursuit, officers arrested 18-year-old Kelvin Amad Cook, and recovered a Taurus 9mm handgun, according to the press release. ASHEBORO N.C. — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting earlier this month a North Asheboro Park that left a 16-year-old in critical condition, according to the Asheboro Police Department. On May 3rd, as officers were responding to a report of shots fired in the area of North Asheboro Park on Canoy Drive, a 16-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the jaw/neck was brought to the Emergency Room at Randolph Hospital by vehicle. An investigation by Detectives identified another 16-year-old male as the suspect, but police were unable to locate that suspect, until today. ASHEBORO — Two homicide suspects wanted in South Carolina were arrested on Friday in Randolph County, according to the Sheriff's Office. On May 3rd, law enforcement agencies in Randolph County received an alert from law enforcement officials out of York County, S.C. that two homicide suspects had left South Carolina and were heading north on I-85. Deputies from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and other local law enforcement agencies began to work to locate the suspects. ASHEBORO — An Asheboro man has been charged and arrested in connection with a fatal hit and run earlier this month on I-73 near Greensboro. Around 7:30 a.m. on April 17th, 2024, the State Highway Patrol responded to a crash on I-73 south, near West Steeple Chase Road in Guilford County. According to the Highway Patrol, 55-year-old Clyde Strickland, of Raeford, N.C. was walking south on I-73 when he was struck by a vehicle. On Monday, April 22nd, the Highway Patrol was notified by medical staff that Strickland had succumbed to injuries. Following the crash the NC Highway Patrol sent out a press release to local media outlets asking for information to identify the vehicle and/or driver. Hugo Ruiz Mendez ASHEBORO — Following a tip and investigation the Randolph County Sheriff's Office charged a suspect with a sex offense involving a minor. According to a press release, on February 8th, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office said they received a report of a possible sex offense involving a minor. Following an investigation of the allegations, Criminal Investigation Detectives sought charges against Hugo Ruiz Mendez for felony indecent liberties with a child. On April 23, 2024, Mendez was located, arrested, and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where he was served the warrant. The magistrate issued a $15,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for April 24, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.

ASHEBORO — A suspect wanted on four active warrants was arrested at a traffic stop in Trinity on Saturday driving a stolen vehicle, according to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on April 20th, 2024, deputies pulled over a vehicle matching the description of one reported stolen out of Davidson County. The driver, identified by the Sheriff’s Office as Grayson Thor Miller was arrested at the scene. ASHEBORO N.C. —  A local man was arrested last week after threating police in a live video posted to social media led to an investigation. On March 26th, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to an assault in progress on U.S. Hwy 64 East in Ramseur. According to a press release, deputies encountered Dominick Lynn Sloan, who threatened to harm law enforcement with a weapon as they were returning to their vehicles, while livestreaming on social media. Dominick Lynn Sloan Investigators were also able to obtain a search warrant for the property due to a protective order issued earlier in March which prevented Sloan from possessing firearms and ammunition. ASHEBORO N.C. — Video evidence led to the arrest of a suspect attempting to report his car stolen after fleeing from police, according to the Sheriff’s Office. On March 25th, 2024, at around 9 p.m., a Deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull over a vehicle near the intersection of Kamerin St. and Caudle Rd. in Randleman. According to a press release, that vehicle quickly turned into a driveway, turned off its headlights, and jumped out of the driver's door and fled on foot behind the residence. Fire Investigator (Acme News Archive) ASHEBORO — A Thomasville woman has turned herself in after being indicted in connection with two house fires that occurred in 2022. According to a press release, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was called to Jades Way in Thomasville on Aug. 29, 2022, to investigate two separate residential fires at the same location — one that day and another occurring two days earlier on Aug. 27. The Randolph County Fire Marshal’s Office notified the sheriff’s office that the fires were suspicious in nature. The sheriff’s office says following their investigation with the fire marshal’s office, the case was taken to the Randolph County Grand Jury during their March 2024 session.
