ASHEBORO N.C. (City of Asheboro) – The City of Asheboro, along with the Asheboro Police Department, would like to announce that after nearly 32 years of dedicated service to the City of Asheboro and its citizens, Chief Mark Lineberry plans to retire effective March 1, 2024.
Chief Lineberry started his career in law enforcement in May 1992 at the Asheboro Police Department. Lineberry worked as a patrol officer and detective until October 2001 when he was promoted to Sergeant. Lineberry rose through the ranks ultimately being selected as Chief of Police in October 2019.
During Lineberry’s tenure as chief he implemented Body Worn Cameras for the department, oversaw the department during the Covid pandemic, implemented and reviewed police policy on reform mandates, managed staffing shortages, just to name a few.
Chief Lineberry also implemented ideas to help bridge any gaps between the community and its police department by developing and implementing a Police Citizen Academy, hosting “Cooking with a Cop” events in various parks during the summer and providing Narcan for officers to carry in the field. Chief Lineberry hosted or attended numerous community meetings intent on listening to problems, finding solutions, and answering questions to display transparency.
The City of Asheboro will be promoting Assistant Chief Robbie Brown to Chief of Police effective March 1, 2024. Also, effective that day, Major Jay Hanson will assume the role of Assistant Chief.
These two individuals are very capable of leading the Asheboro Police Department and this should be a smooth transition for the department and the City of Asheboro.
We wish Chief Lineberry all the best and hope he has a wonderful, healthy retirement, more than likely around a body of water somewhere. Chief Lineberry had a simple philosophy for the department “Respect all people, provide exceptional service, and act like a professional”.
