According to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, on May 7th, 2022, deputies, and first responders were called to the area of Dawson Miller Rd., and US 220 Business in Asheboro for an accidental gunshot wound involving a juvenile. (NC ZOO) - The North Carolina Zoo sadly announces the death of Nori, an 11-year-old member of the chimpanzee troop who was euthanized on Monday after a period of declining health. Nori, who was born at the Zoo on August 2, 2010, was described by Zoo staff as quirky and full of sass. When Nori was born, keepers immediately noticed that her mother wasn't showing the appropriate maternal care she needed to survive. After observing this for a few days, the animal care team decided to pull her for hand-rearing. RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C.  — Randolph County officials are warning the public of a scam involving a letter from the non-existent "Tax Processing Unit of Randolph County".  According to reports concerned citizens have reported receiving a letter in the mail with a bold heading claiming the notice is a “Distraint Warrant.” This letter from the “Tax Processing Unit of Randolph County” attempts to scare residents to respond by stating “levying procedures will begin within 15 days of its receipt.” There is NO such County agency and this is an attempt to scam residents into paying a fake tax debt. Public Domain Image ASHEBORO N.C. - This week we were contacted by more than half a dozen citizens through our Facebook and Twitter accounts asking why the speed limit changed on a section of Old Hwy 49 from 55 mph to 45 mph. So we reached out to the NC Dept of Transportation. According to officials the change resulted from local residents asking the NC DOT to reevaluate the speed limit on the highway. "At the request of local citizens, our division and regional traffic units reviewed safety and speed conditions along the stretch of Old N.C. 49 between Moore Road and the Eastern Junction with N.C. 49 and determined the speed limit for this section should be reduced from 55 to 45 mph" said Aaron Moody, Public Information Officer with NC DOT in an email. According to Melissa Johnson, Director of the Randolph County Board of Elections, they are in urgent need of election workers on Election Day, May 17, 2022, as well as during early voting from April 28-May 14. “With the primary election moving from March to May 17th, some of our usual workers could not rearrange their schedules to work this election. Others have gotten jobs or have health issues or other reasons why they cannot serve during this election.
