Grab a cold one and enjoy a live blacksmith demonstration at Starworks on Thursday, October 26 at 5:30pm. Starworks Director of Metal, Mac Metz, will be joined by guest artist and owner of ItsIronArt, Ian Thompsen.
Tickets are just $5 and are available at StarworksNC.org. Starworks Metal Studio is located at Starworks, 100 Russell Drive, Star, NC and is accessible through Starworks Café & Taproom. This is a family-friendly event for all ages. Guests should wear close-toed shoes in the Metal Studio. Guest Artist Ian Thomsen is a metalsmith working in Asheboro NC. He got his beginnings in blacksmithing through colonial reenacting as a child and has pursued the forging arts ever since. He produces everything from early American tools, to art nouveau and modern gates and railings. His hope is to honor the heritage, while embracing the future of American artisanal forging and ironwork.
Hammers & Ale is a fundraiser to support Starworks growing Metals Program, and Starworks overall mission to promote community and economic development by providing outstanding art education programs and creative entrepreneurial opportunities. Starworks is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, that focuses on providing high quality educational programming in glass, ceramics, and metal arts. Starworks is also host to a Clay Supply Shop, Café & Taproom, and multiple galleries; All open to the public.
Artists worldwide can apply for Starworks internships and residencies that offer space, time, and access to state of the art resources that will aid artists in all stages of their career with advancing their skills and developing a professional network. Starworks is located at 100 Russell Drive in Star, just off I-73/74 in northern Montgomery County.
