Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers Tribute w/ the Kendrik McKinney Sextet feat. David Gibson
Kendrik McKinney is an Oklahoma City based keyboard player, pianist, arranger, and bandleader. Growing up with parents who were both jazz musicians, Kendrik developed a deep love for all kinds of music. Kendrik was influenced by artists such as Prince, John Coltrane, Stevie Wonder, D’Angelo, George Clinton and Parliament, Bill Evans, Hank Williams Jr., Erykah Badu, and Miles Davis. Kendrik has traveled all of the United States recording and performing music with various artists, bands, and jazz bands.
David Gibson is currently active on the New York music scene as a trombonist, composer, arragner, educator, musical director, and bandleader. Legendary trombonist/composer Slide Hampton said, “David Gibson is one of the very talented, truly dedicated musicians on the New York scene today.” His work as a composer/arranger can be heard on several recordings of Orrin Evans’ GRAMMY-nominated Captain Black Big Band, of which he’s a member. The renowned group’s 2020 release, “The Intangible Between,” marks their second GRAMMY nomination in the Large Jazz Ensemble category.
