Tractor Theft Leads To Arrest

ASHEBORO NC – A man is in jail in connection to the theft of a tractor. According to a press release by the Randolph County Sherriff’s Office on October 12th, of 2020 deputies responded to a call about a stolen Kubota tractor on Tobacco Rd. in Trinity.

The Randolph County Sherriff’s Office released surveillance camera photos that showed a tall white male with a white truck and a trailer and asked for help from the public.

In an update released on Fed 9th 2021, the Randolph County Sherriff’s Office says with the assistance from Graham Police Department, Ray Allen Simmons was positively identified through that surveillance video.
The press release states that “following the investigation, it was determined that on October 11, 2020, Ray Allen Simmons had rented a 2020 Chevrolet truck from a rental location in Graham, NC that matched the description of the vehicle in the video surveillance”.

Simmons was located and arrested by the Greensboro Police Department on February 4, 2021, and served his Warrants for Arrest from Randolph County for two counts of Felony Larceny, two counts Felony Possession of Stolen Goods/Property, Felony Attempted Larceny, Misdemeanor Injury to Personal Property for the theft of a tractor in the Tobacco Rd. area of Trinity and one from the Allen Dr. area of Sophia for which he was given a $20,000 secured bond. He was also served the Warrant from Alamance County for Felony Fail to Return Hired Motor Vehicle and given $4,500 unsecured bond.

He had a first appearance in Guilford County and a court date was scheduled in Randolph County for April 7, 2021. The stolen property has not yet been recovered, however, the investigation is ongoing.
