TRINITY N.C. - A driver is facing felony drug charges and misdemeanor DUI and gun charges after police say they found him and his passenger asleep at an intersection in a running vehicle. On October 20th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to the intersection of NC Hwy 62 and Surrett Dr., in Trinity, for a welfare check on a vehicle stopped at an intersection with the driver slumped over at the wheel. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, when the deputy approached the vehicle they smelled the "strong odor of marijuana and alcohol emitting from the vehicle and an open bottle of alcohol was observed in the backseat of the vehicle." According to a press release from the Highway Patrol, at 7:41 a.m. on Thursday, October 12th, 2023, Troopers responded to the report of a crash involving an elementary school bus operated by Randolph County School System at the intersection of Edgar Road at Pliney Farlow Road. On August 20th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 85 north near mile marker 109, in Trinity. During that stop, officers say they located approximately forty-four pounds of cocaine in the "trunk area" of the vehicle. TRINITY N.C. - A search warrant issued as a part of a joint investigation located nearly 30,000 Fentanyl pills at a home in Trinity and landed one person in jail. On August 9th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit and Criminal Interdiction Team, Asheboro Police Department’s Vice Unit, and the Department of Homeland Security's Investigation division (HSI), executed a search warrant on a residence located at 6503 Bellawood Dr. in Trinity. According to a press release, that search located approximately 28,400 Fentanyl pills that weighed approximately 12.5 pounds, along with U.S. Currency. ASHEBORO N.C. - The National Weather Service Office in Raleigh has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook with severe storms expected Tuesday afternoon and into the evening. According to forecasters, strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across much of the Piedmont of North Carolina this afternoon and evening, with the highest risk over the Triad region, including all of Randolph County. Some storms may produce damaging winds over 60 mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. The greatestthreat will occur between 3 PM and 10 PM. On March 28, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of School Road and Trinity Road, in Trinity after receiving a call about a possible larceny/theft. When deputies arrived, they located a vehicle with three occupants at the construction site. On March 20, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Deputy observed a vehicle that matched the description of a suspect vehicle in a recent larceny investigation and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Kennedy Rd., Trinity. Upon approaching the driver’s side, the deputy recognized the driver as the same suspect in that incident. According to information released by the State Highway Patrol, on Tuesday, March 21 st , 2023, at 8:17 pm Troopers responded to the report of a crash that occurred on Mt. Gilead Church Road near Hoover Hill Road in Randolph County. Justin Gray Hall, aged thirty-six, from Sandy Ridge, N.C., was traveling west on Mt. Gilead Church Road operating a 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Troopers say he traveled left of center and left the roadway causing his motorcycle to overturn. Hall suffered serious injuries and was transported to Moses H. Cone hospital in Greensboro.
