Suspected Prowler Shot And Jailed

ASHEBORO NC – A suspected prowler is in jail after being shot while trying to attack a homeowner Saturday afternoon.

According to a press release by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, On May 29, 2021, deputies responded to a report of a prowler in the area of Post Rd in Tabernacle. A homeowner had called 911 to report a possible prowler and told police that a man was trespassing on their property and was told to leave.  

After calling 911 the homeowner noticed the interior lights to their vehicle were on and went to check it out. According to a press release once outside, the suspect threatened and assaulted the victim who was armed. The victim shot the suspect and the suspect fled the scene on foot. Once deputies arrived, a search began, and the suspect was found at a neighboring residence. 

The suspect was identified as Salvador Santiago Barwick. Barwick was evaluated by EMS and taken to a local hospital for treatment. Upon his release, he was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for his charges.

Barwick was given a and a first appearance was set for June 1, 2021, in Randolph County District Court.
