Fire Investigator (Acme News Archive) ASHEBORO — A Thomasville woman has turned herself in after being indicted in connection with two house fires that occurred in 2022. According to a press release, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was called to Jades Way in Thomasville on Aug. 29, 2022, to investigate two separate residential fires at the same location — one that day and another occurring two days earlier on Aug. 27. The Randolph County Fire Marshal’s Office notified the sheriff’s office that the fires were suspicious in nature. The sheriff’s office says following their investigation with the fire marshal’s office, the case was taken to the Randolph County Grand Jury during their March 2024 session. On Wednesday, March 13th, 2024, Troopers with the NC Highway Patrol responded to a crash on US 64 near Westbury Drive. Investigators say that a black 2017 Lexus RX 350 SUV passed a 2016 Toyota in a turning lane, resulting in a collision that sent the Toyota off the roadway to the right, striking an embankment, and a tree. The Lexus SUV fled the scene. The 38-year-old female driver of the Toyota was transported to Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital for serious injuries. RANDLEMAN N.C. – A woman is facing multiple felonies including felony insurance fraud related to a vehicle fire in Randleman late last year. According to a press release by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on September 20th, 2023, deputies responded to Adams Farm Rd., in Randleman for a vehicle fire.  Evidence gathered at the scene and an investigation by the Randolph County Fire Marshal’s Office concluded that the fire was set intentionally.   The investigation led the Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigations Division to seek charges against the vehicle owner, identified in the press release as 38-year-old Jodean Marie Stillwell, for felony insurance fraud, felony burning personal property, and felony attempt to obtain property by false pretense. According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, just after 4 a.m. on February 16th, 2024, deputies responded to Oakland Ave., Asheboro, for a reported hit-and-run involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. ASHEBORO N.C. – A landlord is facing a felony charge of cruelty to animals after he shot a dog late last week, according to the Sheriff’s Office. On January 19th, 2024, the deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Whitt Hunt Rd., in Pleasant Garden, for a call about shots being fired. While enroute, Randolph County 9-1-1 advised that the caller reported that a dog had been shot by their landlord John David Whitt, said the Sheriff’s Office in a press release. Upon arrival, the Deputy observed the dog, which was still alive, lying in a driveway. Randolph County Animal Services responded to assist in the investigation. ASHEBORO N.C. - A suspect wanted by the Sheriff’s Office in connection with a vehicle theft earlier this year has been extradited from Kansas back to Randolph County to face several charges.  On July 23rd, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Old Cedar Falls Rd, in Randleman, for a reported vehicle theft.  An investigation led to charges being sought against Braxton Lee Trogon for felony larceny of a motor vehicle, felony possession of stolen goods/property, and felony extortion. ASHEBORO N.C. - A registered sex offender has been arrested and charged after the Sheriff's Office was notified he had been on school grounds. On October 12th, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office SRO was notified that ChristopherTimothy Ward, a registered sex offender, had been on a school campus. Ward, who currently resides in Thomasville, was convicted in 2010 for two counts of Indecent Liberties with a Minor. Under NC law certain registered sex offenders are prohibited from being in, at, or near certain places. ASHEBORO N.C. - Charges are catching up with the driver of a stolen motorcycle with active warrants who fled from police late last month. In a press release the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says that on September 22nd, 2023, a deputy attempted to pull over a motorcycle on Turnpike Rd., in Archdale, but the driver failed to stop leading to a pursuit. That chase continued to the intersection of Meadowbrook Road and Kennedy Road where the Sheriff's Office says the driver slowed down and appeared to be turning right, before losing control and crashing into a ditch on Kennedy Road across from Meadowbrook Road.
