Driver Airlifted After Wanted Teens Crash During Vehicle Chase

ASHEBORO NC – Five teens are in jail this morning after robbing a delivery driver in High Point and leading police on a chase that ended with a driver being airlifted when the chase ended in a crash.

According to a press release by the High Point Police Department on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at approximately 4:54 PM, High Point officers came in contact with a delivery driver for Domino’s Pizza who reported he had been robbed by five male suspects while he was making a delivery to a house at 633 Paramount St. According to police that house was recently vacated. The delivery driver told police that as he arrived the suspects forced him inside the home, held him down, assaulted him and removed items including but not limited to his car keys and money from his pockets. The delivery driver sustained only minor injuries from the assault and the suspects fled from from the home in the victim’s vehicle.

Hours later deputies in Davidson County located the vehicle but the driver fled, leading police on a chase that ended when the suspects crashed into another vehicle on Fuller Mill Rd N just inside Randolph County. According to Randolph County Emergency Services the driver of the vehicle that was hit was pinned in and had sustained life-threatening injuries. Tabernacle Fire, Fairgrove Fire, Ash-Rand Rescue, and Randolph EMS all responded to the scene and the patient was transported by AirCare to a trauma center.

All four occupants ran from the stolen vehicle after the crash. Officers from both Thomasville and High Point Police Departments set up a perimeter around the scene of the crash and called for a K-9 team from Thomasville. Three of the suspects were located and arrested during the K-9 search. The fourth suspect was located and arrested a short time later when he tried to catch a ride with a passing motorist.

The juveniles, three of whom were 16 and one who was 14 years-old were all arrested and officers obtained Secure Custody Orders for the confinement of all four suspects who were charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Misdemeanor Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Kidnapping, and

Larceny of a Motor Vehicle. The fifth and final suspect was identified as a 17 year old from High Point, was also arrested hours later and charged with the same crimes as the other suspects.

No update on the condition of the driver was available at the time of publication.
