Two Suspects Facing Murder Charges

ASHEBORO NC – Three people are in jail this morning, two of them facing murder charges in connection with a body that was found in a wooded area in Asheboro earlier this month.

According to a press release from the Asheboro Police Department on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at approximately 10:27 PM, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Burns Street for a possible deceased person. When officers arrived they located a deceased male in a wooded area. Detectives were called to the scene and began an investigation. On Monday, September 27, 2021, the victim was positively identified as 64 years Randy Dean Hayden. The investigation led the police arresting of the following people:

Christopher Gordon Knestrick

  • Murder
  • Felony Conspiracy
  • Common Law Robbery

Samuel Lee Stone

  • Murder
  • Felony Conspiracy
  • Common Law Robbery

UPDATE (10/5/21 1:30 PM) – An arrest report released by the Asheboro Police Department shows that on October 2nd Ashley Megan Morgan, who is still in in the Randolph County Jail was served with additional warrants in connection to the Hayden murder investigation. Morgan was charged with Felony Accessory After The Fact and Destroy Remains To Conceal Death. Those two charges added an additional $25,000 to her bond amount. Morgan was set to appear in court yesterday. At the time of publication she remain in the Randolph County Jail.
