VICE Investigated Drug Violation At Motel 6 Days Before Fatal Overdose

ASHEBORO NC – Today we learned that Asheboro Police Departments VICE/Narcotics unit responded to a reported drug violation at the Asheboro Motel 6 just five days before a fatal overdose.

John Chester Reed

According to a police report the Vice/Narcotics unit responded to the Motel 6 in Asheboro on August 20th 2021 for a reported drug violation. Detectives made contact with several individuals staying in one of the rooms and were able to get consent to search the room. Police say that search located and seized marijuana and suspected heroin/fenchyl.

As we reported last month, just five days later on August 25th, detectives would respond to a fatal overdose at the motel, the 240th 911 incident at the motel to date. That number is nearly double the number of 911 calls as the Eccno Lodge located on the other side of E Dixie Dr and ten times the number of calls as the SureStay near the mall.

Police arrested John Chester Reed of Asheboro for Felony Sell/Delivering of a Schedule II controlled substance. Reed is due to appear in Randolph County District Court on Oct 19th 2021.
