UPDATED | Asheboro Fire Responds To Commercial Fire on Albemarle Rd

ASHEBORO N.C. - Just after 5:30pm the Asheboro Fire Department was dispatched to a smoke alarm at 857 Albemarle Rd, a vacant structure between the Quality Inn and Roadway Inn (former Motel 6). When firefighters arrived the reported a commercial structure with smoke showing from the structure. An intal search was conducted the building was reported clear. Within 30-45 mins crews were ventilating the building to remove the smoke. No injuries were reported and the cause is unknown at this time. UPDATE 7/5/22 4:30 PM - Today we learned more details about the commercial structure fire on Albermerle Rd on July 4th. ASHEBORO N.C. — A Randleman man was arrested on Drug trafficking charges earlier this week. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, on December 22nd, 2021, their Vice and Narcotics unit working with the Asheboro Police Department concluded an investigation after receiving information about an the distribution of Heroin and Fentanyl in Asheboro.That investigation led detectives to execute a search warrant at the Motel 6 in Asheboro at 827 Albemarle Rd. Police say that search found a "trafficking amount" of Fentanyl was located, along with Alprazolam (a generic form of Xannax), drug paraphernalia and US Currency. ASHEBORO NC - Today we learned that Asheboro Police Departments VICE/Narcotics unit responded to a reported drug violation at the Asheboro Motel 6 just five days before a fatal overdose. John Chester Reed According to a police report the Vice/Narcotics unit responded to the Motel 6 in Asheboro on August 20th 2021 for a reported drug violation. Detectives made contact with several individuals staying in one of the rooms and were able to get consent to search the room. Police say that search located and seized marijuana and suspected heroin/fenchyl. As we reported last month, just five days later on August 25th, detectives would respond to a fatal overdose at the motel, the 240th 911 incident at the motel to date. Motel 6 in Asheboro (Randolph News Now) ASHEBORO NC - Hopes were high in 2019 when the property at 827 Albemarle Rd in Asheboro was purchased by Asheboro Hospitality 6 LLC for $2.3 million and renovations began to turn the location into a new Motel 6 chain. “We were excited when the property was rehabbed after so many years of sitting empty,” said Asheboro Mayor David Smith. Several years later the Motel 6 location has become a physical embodiment of the drug and crime problem that has plagued Randolph County.  Our investigation began on Friday, August 25th, 2021, when just after 11 AM, police, fire, and EMS crews were called to the motel for a report of a cardiac arrest.
