ASHEBORO N.C. – Asheboro’s hometown Coastal Plain League (CPL) franchise has been the Asheboro Copperheads since 1999, but this year they are re-branding which includes a new name, new colors, new uniforms.
The Asheboro Copperheads announced the re-branding this week, Starting immediately the team will be the Asheboro ZooKeepers. The website for the team has already made the switch, including a special site just for announcing the name change. The teams colors which were burnt orange and black are changing to khaki, brown, black, and jungle
green. Fans can expect to see the new uniforms at the teams first game on May 25th 2022 when they take on the Fuquay-Varina Twins at a home game at McCrary Park.
The re-branding was inspired by the teams proximity to the North Carolina Zoo and is set to coinciding with a renovated McCrary Park in 2022. On their website the team says this rebrand is “intended to elevate the franchise’s positioning within the community as a family-first summertime destination in central North Carolina.” In developing its new identity the team partnered with Skye Design Studios (sdsbranding.com), a national leader in sport branding and identity design with deep roots in North Carolina and the CPL.
In the future the team is planning cross-promotional opportunities with the North Carolina Zoo with an aim towards working together as public ambassadors for the community.
“This is an exciting moment for the organization, the city, and all baseball fans in the area. The way the zoo has embraced our new identity has been overwhelming. Everyone involved can’t wait for the Asheboro ZooKeepers’ inaugural season to begin – and I ain’t LION!”
