Drugs, Dollars & Doctors | Pharmaceutical Company Spending in Randolph County

ASHEBORO N.C. (ACME NEWS) – One of the worst kept secrets in the healthcare industry is the relationship between doctors and pharmaceutical companies. Thanks to the Physician Payments Sunshine Act, every year since 2013 the steady flow of money from drug companies to doctors in the United States has been logged in a government database.

The law requires “applicable manufacturers” of drugs, devices, biological or medical supplies to annually report to CMS certain payments and other transfers of value made to “covered recipients” (physicians or teaching hospitals).

Those payments are recorded in a yearly database by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The most current data available is for the 2020 calendar year, and here is what it has to say about Randolph County.
