A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the sun. To fully witness a total solar eclipse, including seeing the “ring of fire,” you’ll need to be within a 115-mile-wide area stretching from Texas to Maine called the path of totality.   None of North Carolina is in the path, so no one in the state will see the moon fully cover the sun. ASHEBORO N.C. — Video evidence led to the arrest of a suspect attempting to report his car stolen after fleeing from police, according to the Sheriff’s Office. On March 25th, 2024, at around 9 p.m., a Deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull over a vehicle near the intersection of Kamerin St. and Caudle Rd. in Randleman. According to a press release, that vehicle quickly turned into a driveway, turned off its headlights, and jumped out of the driver's door and fled on foot behind the residence. The Sheriff’s Office says there was a short foot pursuit, but the officer returned to the vehicle to check for passengers and call-in backup. Charles Edman Moran, Jr. (left) and Matthew Kelly Flinchum (right) - (Provided by Randolph County Sheriff's Office) ASHEBORO N.C. — Two suspects who allegedly fired into a Randleman home earlier this week have been arrested and charged by the Sheriff’s Office.  On March 5th, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Wicker Lovell Rd., in Randleman after receiving numerous calls about shots being fired in the area.   According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, one of those callers told dispatchers that their home had been hit and they identified a white four-door vehicle that was driving by at the time.   When deputies arrived, they located fired ammunition casings along the roadway. Woman Charged with Insurance Fraud after Vehicle Fire in Randleman

RANDLEMAN N.C. – A woman is facing multiple felonies including felony insurance fraud related to a vehicle fire in Randleman late last year. According to a press release by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on September 20th, 2023, deputies responded to Adams Farm Rd., in Randleman for a vehicle fire.  Evidence gathered at the scene and an investigation by the Randolph County Fire Marshal’s Office concluded that the fire was set intentionally.   The investigation led the Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigations Division to seek charges against the vehicle owner, identified in the press release as 38-year-old Jodean Marie Stillwell, for felony insurance fraud, felony burning personal property, and felony attempt to obtain property by false pretense. On Monday March 4th, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., NC DOT will be closing the right lane at mile markers 84 and 83, located just north of the W Academy Street exit for road work. Department of Transportation is seeking public input on plans to extend the Deep Rivier Trail in Randleman. The proposed project would extend the existing 1-mile Deep River Nature Trail in Randleman on both ends, creating a 5.6-mile trail segment along the Deep River that includes a scenic natural surface trail loop in a Deep River oxbow near Randleman Lake. The Deep River Trail expansion is one of 10 projects identified as part of the Great Trails State Implementation Report as having the most impact and being most ready for implementation. Fire at the Worthville Mill in Randleman. (PJ Ward-Brown / North State Journal) RANDLEMAN N.C. - Fire crews from across Randolph County are working to control a fire at the old Worthville Mill on Russell Walker Ave in Randleman as well as a woods fire near Worthville Beach. At 3:57 p.m. fire crews from several departments were dispatched to the Worthville Mill, located at 216 Russell Walker Ave in Randleman for a commercial structure fire. The three-story mill, which has been abandoned for several years, was fully involved. Randolph County Emergency Services reports that around twelve departments are on scene currently. ASHEBORO N.C. – The National Weather Service in Raleigh is warning that an arctic air mass will bring frigid temperatures tonight and into Wednesday, with more dangerously cold temperatures and the threat of winter weather later this week. According to forecasters at the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a cold front will move across the region today bringing cold rain. Behind that cold front an arctic air will move into central North Carolina mass bringing frigid air and gusty winds of 15 to 20 mph tonight. Here in Randolph County, temperatures tonight and into Wednesday morning will plunge to 17 degrees, with windchill values reaching as low as 7 degrees, and that’s just round one.
