Asheboro Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce join together for Field of Honor

ASHEBORO N.C. – The Asheboro Rotary Club and the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce will come together to put on the 6th annual Field of Honor later this month.

Starting on Friday, November 11th, and running through Sunday, November 13, the baseball field at South Asheboro Middle School will covered with 500 U.S. flags in recognition of veterans, active-duty service men and women, and first responders. Throughout the weekend, the public will be able to visit the Field of Honor and walk among the flags anytime, day or night.

The opening ceremony to be held at 12 p.m. on November 11th, will be led by Master of Ceremonies Larry Reid and will feature:

  • Presentation and retirement of the colors by the Asheboro High School JRROTC
  • National anthem by Marcus Lowery
  • Fly over by Jerry Jeffers
  • Invocation by Pastor Travis Cooke
  • Keynote speech by Dr. Robert Shackleford
  • Benediction by Pastor Dean Pollard

Funds raised through this event will benefit the Asheboro Rotary Club Scholarship Fund and the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber Charitable Foundation.

On Friday, November 11th and Saturday, November 12th, flag sales will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 6 p.m. On Sunday, November 13th, volunteers will be on site from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m before the closing ceremony led by MC Larry Reid at 3 p.m. will feature:

  • Randolph County Honor Guard 21 gun salute and Taps
  • Reading of names on flags by members of the Asheboro Rotary Club
  • America the Beautiful sung by Cynthia Price
  • Bagpiper John Davis
  • Purchased flags can be collected and taken home after the closing ceremony concludes.
