Police Investigating Stabbing at Bicentennial Park in Asheboro [UPDATED]

ASHEBORO N.C. – Police are investigating a stabbing that took place earlier this afternoon at Bicentennial Park in Asheboro.

Just after 3pm on June 15th, 2023, police, fire, and EMS were dispatched to Bicentennial Park in downtown Asheboro for a report of a stabbing.

One victim was located near the fountain, bleeding, and was treated and then transported from the scene by EMS. Their condition is not known currently.

APD deployed a K9 to attempt to locate a suspect who fled the scene.

Detectives and Investigators are currently on scene collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses.


UPDATE 6/16/23 1:30 P.M. – A suspect has been arrested in connection with yesterday’s stabbing at Bicentennial Park, according to information released by the Asheboro Police Department.

In an email to Randolph News Now, Robbie Brown Asst Chief of Police of the Asheboro Police Department, says officers responded to Bicentennial Park in reference to a stabbing. “When they arrived, they spoke with several witnesses who indicated a white male was on top of another male stabbing him.”

Those witnesses reported that before officers arrived, a white male had fled the scene but was located a short distance from the scene by responding officers and arrested, without incident.

Police identified that white male suspect as Mason Bryce Wooten, and he was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury and placed in the Randolph County Jail under a $150,000.00 secured bond.
