Police Investigating Stabbing at Bicentennial Park in Asheboro [UPDATED]

ASHEBORO N.C. - Police are investigating a stabbing that took place earlier this afternoon at Bicentennial Park in Asheboro. Just after 3pm on June 15th, 2023, police, fire, and EMS were dispatched to Bicentennial Park in downtown Asheboro for a report of a stabbing. One victim was located near the fountain, bleeding, and was treated and then transported from the scene by EMS. Their condition is not known currently. APD deployed a K9 to attempt to locate a suspect who fled the scene. Detectives and Investigators are currently on scene collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses. ASHEBORO N.C. - The City of Asheboro has announced they will be hosting Asheboro’s first Mariachi Festival on the first weekend in May. The festival is split across two days, with a paid concert featuring Latin GRAMMY-Winning female group Flor de Toloache on Friday May 5th at the Sunset Theater, followed by a free event Saturday May 6th at Bicentennial Park featuring local Mariachi bands from the Triad and Asheboro's own Ballet Folkloric Guadalupano. Photo provided by Randolph County Public Library ASHEBORO N.C. - Several people have learned that throwing soap in local fountains can end up being a very expensive practical joke, and officials say it's no laughing matter. On May 5th 2022, officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to Bicentennial Park in downtown Asheboro after an unknown suspect threw soap into the fountain causing it to overflow with bubbles. The fountain at Bicentennial Park is not the only fountain that’s been vandalized this year. ASHEBORO, NC – Asheboro's Cultural & Recreation Services announced they will be holding the 1st annual Asheboro Gifting Tree Project. "Stroll through Bicentennial Park as it is transformed into a dazzling Christmas tree display. Local businesses, religious organizations, non-profits, schools, service clubs, and individuals/families decorate their tree in a competition to win a donation (provided by Modern Toyota) to the nonprofit group of their choice" said Cultural & Recreation Services in a press release.
