Sheriff’s Citizen Academy Taking Applications

ASHEBORO N.C. – The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office is again offering the Sheriff’s Citizen Academy to Randolph County residents who are interested in learning more about the Sheriff’s Office and how they operate.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Citizen Academy is designed to help citizens understand how the Sheriff’s Office operates. Class for the upcoming academy include a tour of the Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Services Headquarters, driving, firearm, and K9 demonstrations, tours of the jail and courthouse, and the oppertunity to learn more about everything from Community Based Programs, Patrol Operations, Fleet Maintenance, and more.

A former student describes the program as an “excellent behind the scenes” program that provided an “insight to what the Sheriff’s Department does.”

The Citizens Academy consists of ten sessions that meet once per week, on Tuesday evenings, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Most classes will be held at Randolph County Emergency Services Headquarters, located at 760 New Century Dr., Asheboro, NC 27205, however some sessions will be held at various other locations like the training center, jail, and courthouse.

To be eligible to attend the Citizen Academy you must be at least twenty years-old or older, have not been convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor or have received a prayer for judgment for either, have no pending charges for a felony or serious misdemeanor, and must not be a current or former member of any criminal gang or organization that advocates the overthrow of any local, state or federal government. Additionally, applicants must pass a background investigation, sign a Waiver and Release, not be a current defendant in an active civil litigation, and be able to attend 80% of classes.

Any omissions or misrepresentation on this application will result in your application NOT being approved. The application deadline is Tuesday, August 1, 2023.

There is no cost to attend the Citizen’s Academy. Class size is limited due to the space and time of each class.
