Sheriff’s Office charges man charged with indecent liberties

Hugo Ruiz Mendez ASHEBORO — Following a tip and investigation the Randolph County Sheriff's Office charged a suspect with a sex offense involving a minor. According to a press release, on February 8th, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office said they received a report of a possible sex offense involving a minor. Following an investigation of the allegations, Criminal Investigation Detectives sought charges against Hugo Ruiz Mendez for felony indecent liberties with a child. On April 23, 2024, Mendez was located, arrested, and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where he was served the warrant. The magistrate issued a $15,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for April 24, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.

ASHEBORO — A suspect wanted on four active warrants was arrested at a traffic stop in Trinity on Saturday driving a stolen vehicle, according to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on April 20th, 2024, deputies pulled over a vehicle matching the description of one reported stolen out of Davidson County. The driver, identified by the Sheriff’s Office as Grayson Thor Miller was arrested at the scene. ASHEBORO N.C. —  A local man was arrested last week after threating police in a live video posted to social media led to an investigation. On March 26th, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to an assault in progress on U.S. Hwy 64 East in Ramseur. According to a press release, deputies encountered Dominick Lynn Sloan, who threatened to harm law enforcement with a weapon as they were returning to their vehicles, while livestreaming on social media. Dominick Lynn Sloan Investigators were also able to obtain a search warrant for the property due to a protective order issued earlier in March which prevented Sloan from possessing firearms and ammunition. ASHEBORO N.C. — Video evidence led to the arrest of a suspect attempting to report his car stolen after fleeing from police, according to the Sheriff’s Office. On March 25th, 2024, at around 9 p.m., a Deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull over a vehicle near the intersection of Kamerin St. and Caudle Rd. in Randleman. According to a press release, that vehicle quickly turned into a driveway, turned off its headlights, and jumped out of the driver's door and fled on foot behind the residence. The Sheriff’s Office says there was a short foot pursuit, but the officer returned to the vehicle to check for passengers and call-in backup. Fire Investigator (Acme News Archive) ASHEBORO — A Thomasville woman has turned herself in after being indicted in connection with two house fires that occurred in 2022. According to a press release, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was called to Jades Way in Thomasville on Aug. 29, 2022, to investigate two separate residential fires at the same location — one that day and another occurring two days earlier on Aug. 27. The Randolph County Fire Marshal’s Office notified the sheriff’s office that the fires were suspicious in nature. This morning, K9 Ziva and her handler were honored in an End of Watch ceremony with members of the Sheriff’s Office along with the agencies Honor Guard gathered to say goodbye to K9 Ziva before the pair were escorted to the veterinarian’s office.
