ASHEBORO N.C. - The AMBER Alert for a kidnapped 9-year-old from Asheboro has been canceled after the child was located unharmed and the suspect arrested. According to a press release from the Asheboro Police Department, at approximately 6:38 am this morning, officers responded to a home on Powhatan Avenue in Asheboro, for a report of a kidnapping. A grandmother reported to police that Darrell Milton Boyd Jr. had entered the residence and left with her 9-year-old granddaughter. An AMBER Alert was issued, and an arrest warrant was issued for Boyd. At approximately 10:00 am, officers received information indicating that Boyd was possibly in the area of Kiger Rd in Germanton, NC. Department of Transportation will perform nightly closures of the southbound lanes of U.S. 421 next week in Randolph County, weather permitting. From 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Sept. 25 to Sept. 28, crews from Ames Construction plan to close U.S. 421 South as part of ongoing interchange work. A signed detour to Shiloh Road will be in place during the southbound closure. Lane closures with no detour will be in place during the same timeframe for on Sept 29, and Oct 2-6. On September 11th, 2023, the American Red Cross announced that the national blood supply has fallen to critically low levels that could potentially threatening the emergency medical care of patients and those with medical conditions who depend on blood transfusions. ASHEBORO N.C. - Off parole for less than three months, a 23-year-old suspect is again facing multiple felony gun, drug, and fleeing charges after leading police from two counties on a nearly hour long pursuit early Sunday morning. In the early morning hours of September 3rd, 2023, a deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff’s was patrolling on US Hwy 220 S, near Asheboro, when they spotted a motorcycle with no license plate that shut off its lights off and made a turn on Crestview Church Rd. The deputy followed the motorcycle and attempted to pull it over, but according to a press release the driver refused to stop leading to a vehicle pursuit. ASHEBORO N.C. - A suspect allegedly driving a stolen vehicle tried to flee from police earlier this week but ended up crashing into a truck and being arrested. On August 29th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, who were tracking a vehicle reported stolen out of Lexington that had entered Randolph County. Randolph County deputies located the vehicle in the area of Meadowbrook Rd. and Kennedy Farm Rd. and attempted to pull over the driver. ASHEBORO N.C. - A suspect wanted in a sex crime case in Colorado was located and arrested in Asheboro last week. On August 24th, 2023, a detective with the Boulder Police Department in Boulder, Colorado, contacted the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT) about locating Nehemias Lopez, who was wanted on a Felony Sexual Assault-Physically Helpless charge.   Boulder Police Department had been actively looking for Lopez for several months and believed that Lopez had fled from Colorado to Asheboro, NC. Detectives with the Criminal Apprehension Team and an additional deputy were able to apprehend Lopez on August 25th, 2023, at approximately 8:30 am, as he was traveling in Asheboro and on his way to Raleigh.
