What Happened? On Tuesday, April 16th at approximately 9:07 a.m. the Archdale Police Department was called about a male suspect who entered the business of Carolina Container and fired multiple shots before fleeing the area in a white truck.According to the Archdale Police Department no one was injured in the shooting and a description of a male suspect was gathered. (Acme News Archive) ASHEBORO — The North Carolina Zoo is warning visitors to plan ahead and be aware of expected higher than normal attendance through this weekend due to spring break. On April 1st, 2024, the N.C. Zoo officialy switched to spring hours, adding an extra hour, now remaing open until 5 p.m. Early spring has historically been the busiest time of year for the Zoo and officals says they anticipate high attendance through April 7th, due to spring break. ASHEBORO — Starlab, a portable planetarium purchased by the State Library in 2018, is making a stop at several Randolph County Libraries this month. StarLab is a portable inflatable planetarium that uses a computer and projector to display various stellar and physics-related experiences and bring outer space to schools’ libraries, camps, scouting groups and more. The product was invented back in 1977 by Philip Sadler and his class of middle school students in Lincoln, Massachusetts. ASHEBORO — An early-morning fiery crash in Asheboro has claimed the life of a local woman, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol. At 6:25 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, troopers with the Highway Patrol were dispatched to a vehicle crash on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive near Mountain Top Drive. According to a press release, 24-year-old Alvaro Cabrera Gudino, of Asheboro, was driving on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in a Honda minivan when she traveled off the right side of the road, struck a mailbox, a utility pole, and a tree. After impacting the tree, Gudino’s vehicle came to rest and caught fire. Gudino suffered serious injuries and was transported to Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro. ASHEBORO N.C. —  A local man was arrested last week after threating police in a live video posted to social media led to an investigation. On March 26th, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to an assault in progress on U.S. Hwy 64 East in Ramseur. According to a press release, deputies encountered Dominick Lynn Sloan, who threatened to harm law enforcement with a weapon as they were returning to their vehicles, while livestreaming on social media. Dominick Lynn Sloan Investigators were also able to obtain a search warrant for the property due to a protective order issued earlier in March which prevented Sloan from possessing firearms and ammunition. ASHEBORO N.C. — A local teenager was airlifted following a crash yesterday evening that shutdown US-64, according to the Highway Patrol. Just after 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 28th, 2024, the State Highway Patrol was called to respond to a vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 64 near Loflin Pond Road.  According to a press release from the Highway Patrol, an 18-year-old driver in a 2011 Honda SUV attempted to turn left onto U.S. Highway 64 from the Dollar General PVA and collided with a 2020 Toyota Pickup. The teen driver was severely injured and was airlifted to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. The driver of the 2020 Toyota Pickup, along with an adult passenger, were transported to Randolph Health for non-life-threatening injuries. The N.C. Dept of Transportation closed both directions...

ASHEBORO N.C. — Video evidence led to the arrest of a suspect attempting to report his car stolen after fleeing from police, according to the Sheriff’s Office. On March 25th, 2024, at around 9 p.m., a Deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull over a vehicle near the intersection of Kamerin St. and Caudle Rd. in Randleman. According to a press release, that vehicle quickly turned into a driveway, turned off its headlights, and jumped out of the driver's door and fled on foot behind the residence. The Sheriff’s Office says there was a short foot pursuit, but the officer returned to the vehicle to check for passengers and call-in backup. Fire Investigator (Acme News Archive) ASHEBORO — A Thomasville woman has turned herself in after being indicted in connection with two house fires that occurred in 2022. According to a press release, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was called to Jades Way in Thomasville on Aug. 29, 2022, to investigate two separate residential fires at the same location — one that day and another occurring two days earlier on Aug. 27. The Randolph County Fire Marshal’s Office notified the sheriff’s office that the fires were suspicious in nature. The sheriff’s office says following their investigation with the fire marshal’s office, the case was taken to the Randolph County Grand Jury during their March 2024 session. ASHEBORO N.C. — A U.S. Army soldier stationed at Fort Liberty in North Carolina was arrested overnight at a local park in Asheboro, accused of engaging in sexual activity with a minor. Late on Wednesday March 20th, officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at a local park past curfew. According to a press release from the Department, officers found a male, later identified as 27-year-old Eric Timothy Fitch with a 13-year-old juvenile female in the vehicle along with evidence that Fitch had engaged in sexual activity with the female.
