ASHEBORO N.C. -The North Carolina Zoo is offering free admission for military personnel and retirees and free admission for one accompanying guest during Military Appreciation week, from Nov. 7th and Nov 13th, 2022. This special discount is available to active duty, reserve, veteran, and retired military personnel from all military branches and is only available for admission purchased on-site. RCSO K9 Stock Photo (Acme News Archive) ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office is asking for votes as it competes with other departments across the Southeast for a grant to help provide equipment for the agencies K9 division. On October 24th, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office announced in a press release that their K-9 Unit had been nominated for the Aftermath K9 Grant. Aftermath Services describes itself as "the premier provider of trauma cleaning and biohazard remediation" on its website. The company's K9 Grant is making $15,000 available to law enforcement, EMS, or other public safety agencies for the creation, maintenance, or growth of a K9 unit. Each year NOAA puts out its yearly winter forecast predictions. This year the governmental agencies forecast which covers December 2022 through February 2023, is calling for La Niña to return for a third consecutive winter. ASHEBORO N.C. - If you live in the City of Asheboro your water may have a slight chorine smell starting in a few days. On October 10th, 2022, the City of Asheboro posted a notice that water treatment plants would be switching to free chlorine as the primary disinfection treatment starting on Tuesday, November 1st. This change is made once a year and according to the city the treatment is "necessary to ensure optimum water quality throughout the distribution water mains." On September 26th, 2022, just after 1pm officers from the Asheboro Police Department’s Patrol Division were dispatched to 337 Hamlin Street Asheboro in reference to a shooting. The blood drive will be held from 11:00 am through 6:00 pm at the National Guard Armory located at 1430 S. Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, NC. Blood donated directly to the Armed Services Blood Program equates to fewer units the military has to purchase from an outside source. Yes, “purchase.” Other sources of blood are sold to agencies that need the supply, including to the military. Asheboro Fire Department (via Facebook) ASHEBORO N.C. - No one was injured in a late-night fire at the Asheboro Pizza Hut. According to a press release from the Asheboro Fire Department this morning, Fire and Rescue crews from the department's A-shift were dispatched to a commercial fire at the Pizza Hut on E Dixie Dr at around 11:30 pm. "Crews arrived on scene to find heavy smoke showing. Crews conducted a search to verify the building was not occupied. Crews were also able to quickly extinguish the fire," said Samantha East, Public Information Officer with the Asheboro Fire Department.
