ASHEBORO N.C. - This week family, friends, and fellow co-worker are mourning the loss of Joey Thompson, who passed away peacefully at High Point Regional Hospital on Monday January 24th 2022, after a long and hard fight, with COVID-19. Thompson began working at the Randolph County 9-1-1 center in 2013 where he was known for his unique deep voice and playful sense of humor. Due to COVID restrictions the family decided to do a virtual service so all may honor him. The family respectfully ask that in lieu of flowers, money be sent to Caleb Thompson, his 9-year-old son in order to help with his education. . Now, it looks like that date may change again in what can only be called an unmitigated disaster involving multiple lawsuits, a dead map makers estranged daughter, a D.C. based watchdog group. On Jan 15th 2022 at 4:10 (GMT), a massive volcanic eruption occurred on the island of Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai, in Tonga. The country, made up of some 169 islands, of which 36 are inhabited and is home to some 105,000 people. According to the Randolph County Fire Marshal’s Office, on Sunday at 11:35AM crews from Staley, Liberty and Franklinville Fire Departments responded to a call for a residential structure fire on White Lake Dr. When firefighters arrived they found a working fire at a single story home. At the time of the fire there were 7 adults in the home. All occupants were able to exit the structure. Now, just hours before snow and sleet are set to start, new forecasts are changing the amount of snow and ice we can expect, with warnings of widespread power outages and treacherous travel conditions. WINTER STORM WARNING At 3am this morning, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh upgraded the Winter Storm Watch for our area to a Winter Storm Warning, starting at midnight tonight. On January 11th 2022, the Red Cross issued a statement with dire language saying the shortage is posing a concerning risk to patient care, forcing doctors to make difficult decisions about who receives blood transfusions and who will need to wait.
