ASHEBORO N.C. - This month the Randolph County Sheriff's Office will be conducting 'Operation School Supplies' to fill law enforcement vehicles with school supplies for local students. Here's what you need to know. Starting August 21st and running through 25th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office will be collecting school supplies in front of the Asheboro Walmart from 9 am – 1 pm each day. Donations of pencils, pens, notebooks, paper, crayons, markers, calculators, erasers, binders, rulers, glue, and more are all needed to fill the law enforcement vehicle each day. Former Asheboro Fire Chief John McGlohon served as an aerial reconnaissance photographer in World War II where he snapped images of the atomic bomb blast at Hiroshima. Registration Open for Asheboro Junior Amateur Golf Tournament

ASHEBORO N.C. - Registration is now open for the annual Junior Amateur Golf Tournament in early August. The Asheboro Municipal Golf Course will be hosting the annual Junior Amateur Golf Tournament on August 5th and August 6th, 2023.  The tournament is open to any junior golfer between 7-18 years of age.  Participants will be divided into three age divisions that will be determined based on the number of entrants.  The entry fee is $25 for all players, which includes two rounds of golf (the number of holes in each round will be proportional to each age group) and winning trophies. ASHEBORO N.C. - The elderly are especially vulnerable to fraud, scams, and exploitation, and with a lifetime of savings in the bank, they are prime targets. The Randolph County Sheriff's Office and Public Library will be presenting programs for citizens about scams/frauds and ways to prevent them and protect yourself when using the internet.   H.E.L.P.S. or Helping Elders Learn to Prevent Scams is an outreach program by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Community Outreach, in conjunction with the Randolph County Public Library System’s Digital Services Librarian. Organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers, the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is the largest one-day food drive in the country. On Saturday, May 13, 2023, the public is asked to leave bags of non-perishable food by their mailboxes for local Letter Carriers to collect. You can also drop off food at your local post office. Once the Letter Carriers return to their Post Offices, volunteers are on-site to unload the food from the postal trucks, sort the food, and load it into Food Bank trucks returning to our branches. driftwood / Adobe Stock Asheboro Cultural & Recreation Services is proud to announce that we will be offering a Shuffleboard Doubles League for adults ages 50 or better this summer. Not completely sure how to play or keep score – don’t worry. We will go over all the rules and provide all the equipment needed. The local league is available for men and women with the only restriction being that all participants need to be 50 years old or greater. Partners can be comprised of two males, two females or one male and one female. This league will take place on Tuesday mornings during the months of May and June.
