ASHEBORO NC - Due to low participation numbers the Asheboro Cultural and Recreation Services department has made the decision to cancel the Fall Festival 5K/10K. This comes just days after the Randolph Arts Guild decided to cancel this years Fall Festival for a 2nd year in a row. ASHEBORO NC (RANDOLPH COUNTY ARTS GUILD) - As the COVID-19 cases in Randolph County continue to rise, the 48th Annual Fall Festival committee and Randolph Arts Guild Board of Directors has been receiving guidance and regular updates from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Randolph County Public Health, and Randolph Health. Everyone from our vendors, attendees, sponsors, and downtown merchants have been affected by this pandemic. Ongoing discussions have been difficult and complex. Sadly, we have ultimately decided that it is in the best interest of the community to cancel the 2021 Fall Festival, October 2 – 3, 2021, due to COVID-19 for the second year in a row. ASHEBORO NC - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office has placed a decal in the hood of two of two if’s patrol vehicles and the rear window of another in the memory of Sandy Bradshaw as well all the brave first responders who died in the 2001 terrorist attacks on Sept 11th. Sandy Bradshaw (Photo provided by National Park Service) Thirty-eight year old Sandy Waugh Bradshaw, was a native of Climax, North Carolina. Bradshaw was an American flight attendant on board United Airlines Flight 93 during the September 11th attacks. Passengers and crew on the plane learned that planes had crashed into the World Trade Center and Pentagon. ASHEBORO NC - Ken Jennings, the man who won 74 consecutive game of Jeopardy! is set to speak in Asheboro this weekend. A recent rule change removed the five consecutive games limit for winners which led to Jennings going on a 74-game victory streak winning an estimated $2.52 million. In 2020, he beat out Brad Rutter and James Holzhauer in the “Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time." Department of Transportation needs volunteers to help clean up trash along roads during the Adopt-A-Highway Fall Litter Sweep from Sept. 11-25. Each April and September, NCDOT asks volunteers to help remove litter from roadsides. Volunteers from local businesses, schools, nonprofits, churches, municipalities, law enforcement and community groups play an important role in keeping North Carolina’s roads clean. ASHEBORO NC - Last Thursday was Victory Junction Night at McCrary Park. The Asheboro Copperheads took on the Florence RedWolves sporting a special Victory Junction jersey as part of a fundraiser that helped raise over 13,000 dollars to go towards providing children with serious illnesses the opportunity to go to the camp at no cost. July 4th 2021 Archdale 6PM to 10PM - Creekside Park The city of Archdale will be holding a smaller 4th of July celebration this year. They will be shooting off fireworks the night of the 4th at Creekside park, just after dusk. Staff will park cars until the park is full and then the park will be closed. Food Trucks will open at 6pm, music by DJ Squirrel will begin at 6pm as well. Local law enforcement, including NC Highway Patrol, started the organization to assist families in Randolph County who were in need. "Our organization is given names of children in need by both school systems’ counselors/social workers. We then help Santa shop for those children in Randolph County who will not have a Christmas.
