Driver Seriously Injured in Crash that Shutdown I-73/74 Monday Night

[Scott Pelkey | North State Journal] ASHEBORO N.C.- A driver was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident on I-73/74 late Monday night that shutdown the interstate for nearly three hours. Just after 10:30 p.m. Asheboro Fire/Rescue Department, Randolph County EMS, Asheboro Police, and the Randolph County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer on I-73/74 northbound, near the Sunset Ave exit. The State Highway Patrol was also notified of the crash and Troopers responded to investigate. In a press release, the Highway Patrol says that Abdelaleem Mustafa Alnagar, 23, of Colfax, N.C., was stopped on the northbound shoulder of I-73/74 in a 2014 Jeep Wrangler. Storm Brings Heavy Rain, Vehicle Crashes, and Power Outages

(Scott Pelkey / North State Journal) ASHEBORO N.C. - An evening thunderstorm brought with it heavy rain, vehicle crashes, downed trees, and power outages. Just before 6pm, the National Weather Service in Raleigh issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Randolph County after radar indicated a severe thunderstorm near Lexington, moving northeast at 30 mph with 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. Just as the storm was leaving Asheboro, Westside Fire Dept, Asheboro Fire Dept, Randolph County EMS, and Ash-Rand Rescue were dispatched to a vehicle crash on I-73/74 SB just south of Spero Rd for a vehicle crash with two occupants pinned-in.
