ASHEBORO N.C. - A driver is facing felony charges after police say while intoxicated, he fired a shot at the victim's car before ramming it several feet. On January 13th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to an incident on US 220business just south of McDowell Road after a caller reported an armed person. Upon arrival, deputies met with the caller who said he had been the victim of a road rage incident where his vehicle was shot at before being rammed by another driver. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, the caller reported that while traveling southbound on I-73, the suspect vehicle passed him at a high rate of speed. After getting a house fire under control, firefighters work to put out hot spots and overhaul the scene on Friday Jan 13th, 2023. At 1:25 PM on Friday January 13th, 2023, firefighters from Ulah, Westside, and East Side Fire Departments, along with Randolph County EMS were dispatched to a home on Ashbrook View Ln in Asheboro. The first unit arrived on scene at 1:30pm and reported a working fire near the rear of the structure. ASHEBORO N.C. - Detectives with the Asheboro Police Department are investigating after the Hardees in Asheboro was robbed at gunpoint in the middle of the day. On January 5th, 2023, just before 3pm, officers responded to the Hardee’s located at 457 East Dixie Drive in reference to a panic alarm. According to Asst Police Chief Robbie Brown with the Asheboro Police Department, while officers were enroute communications advised the business had been robbed. Of those thousands of calls, the most recorded call type at 11% (14,089) were 9-1-1 hang-up, misdials, or open lines (aka butt-dials), followed by 11,186 calls (8.7%) which were marked as duplicate calls where several people called in to report the same incident. Theft was responsible for the largest number of 9-1-1 calls reporting crime in 2022 (when larceny and burglaries are combined) with a total of 4,145 or 3.2% of all calls. Unattended Camp Fire sparks Woods Fire in Birkhead Mountains Wilderness Area

(Photo by Jared Byrd / Randolph County Emergency Services) ASHEBORO N.C. - Officials are saying an unattended campfire is to blame for starting a woods fire that consumed around 1.5 acres in the Birkhead Mountains Wilderness Area this afternoon. At around 2 pm, firefighters from Ulah Fire Department along with Rangers from the NC Forestry Service were dispatched to the Birkhead Mountains Wilderness Area for a report of a woods fire. According to a post on Facebook by the Ulah Fire Department the fire was located approximately 1.5 miles into the Birkhead Wilderness trails. Personnel had the fire contained within an hour of reaching its point of origin and were able to clear the scene at around 4:30 pm. No injuries were reported.

ASHEBORO N.C. - Asheboro Police Officers were involved in a vehicle pursuit after trying to pull over a suspect they believe was connected to several vehicle break-ins at a local apartment complex last week. According to information from the Asheboro Police Department, officers were notified of several 911 calls reporting at least five vehicles broken into at Summers Run Apartments. Police say they were able to determine the suspect's vehicle. That vehicle, which had been reported stolen out of Greensboro, was spotted and sped away when officers attempted to pull it over on a traffic stop.
