ASHEBORO N.C. - A convicted felon with a shotgun strapped to his motorcycle was arrested after crashing into a patrol vehicle earlier this week, according to police.  On December 5th, 2023, a deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was on a call on Clifton Dr. in Archdale. According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, a motorcycle traveling south on Clifton Drive with no headlights struck the deputies patrol vehicle in the rear.  The operator, identified by the Sheriff’s Office as Thurman Earl Sampson, came to rest in front of the vehicle and was evaluated by Randolph County EMS.  While inspecting the damage to the vehicles, the deputy located a shotgun strapped on the motorcycle, and discovered that Sampson, the driver, is a convicted felon.  ...

ASHEBORO N.C. - Off parole for less than three months, a 23-year-old suspect is again facing multiple felony gun, drug, and fleeing charges after leading police from two counties on a nearly hour long pursuit early Sunday morning. In the early morning hours of September 3rd, 2023, a deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff’s was patrolling on US Hwy 220 S, near Asheboro, when they spotted a motorcycle with no license plate that shut off its lights off and made a turn on Crestview Church Rd. According to a police report on February 15th, 2023, officers with the department's VICE & Narcotics unit and the Special Enforcment Team conducted a search warrant for apartment 205 at the Sunset Place Apartments. Police say they seized 13.1 grams of cocaine and an MP-25 handgun during the search. [Scott Pelkey / Acme News] ASHEBORO N.C. - The North Carolina Court of Appeals recently ordered a lower court's ruling to go into effect which allows felons who are not in jail or prison to register and vote. The court's ruling went into effect on July 27th, 2022, allowing an individual serving a felony sentence who is not in jail or prison to register and vote. Previously, North Carolina law barred a person serving a felony sentence from being able to register or vote until they completed their felony sentence which included probation, post-release supervision, or parole. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man who shot at officers during a standoff in Liberty back in 2020 has been indicted by a Grand Jury and is facing multiple charges including Felony Attempted Murder. On September 13, 2020, deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office along with officers from the Liberty Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Hwy 49 N, just outside the Liberty city limits, regarding a domestic call and shots were fired inside the residence. The suspect, Robert Dwight Bender, had retreated into a structure behind the residence and the caller was safely removed from the house. ASHEBORO N.C. - A convicted felon on probation was arrested after police say a search of his home found guns, ammo, and drugs. On December 7th, 2021, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was called to Raymond Gray Lane, in Archdale, to assist NC Probation and Parole in searching the home of Stan Millikan Davis, Jr., a convicted felon on probation for drug charges out of Guilford County. During that search police say they found marijuana, firearms and ammunition.
