ASHEBORO N.C. — A local teenager was airlifted following a crash yesterday evening that shutdown US-64, according to the Highway Patrol. Just after 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 28th, 2024, the State Highway Patrol was called to respond to a vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 64 near Loflin Pond Road. According to a press release from the Highway Patrol, an 18-year-old driver in a 2011 Honda SUV attempted to turn left onto U.S. Highway 64 from the Dollar General PVA and collided with a 2020 Toyota Pickup. The teen driver was severely injured and was airlifted to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. The driver of the 2020 Toyota Pickup, along with an adult passenger, were transported to Randolph Health for non-life-threatening injuries. The N.C. Dept of Transportation closed both directions...

According to the NC Highway Patrol, just before 2 am on May 20th 2022, Troopers were called to a single vehicle accident on US Hwy 64 near Mount Shepherd Rd. The driver, identified as 24-year-old Juan De Medina-Garcia of Asheboro, was traveling west on US Hwy 64 when he went off the right side of the roadway, over corrected, before traveling off the road on the left side of the roadway and overturning. Medina-Garcia sustained life threatening injuries as a result of the crash and was transported by EMS to Moses Cone Hospital.
