Highway Patrol searching for suspect in fatal hit & run

ASHEBORO — The North Carolina Highway Patrol is searching for a suspect involved in a fatal hit and run last week. Around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday April 17th, 2024, the State Highway Patrol responded to the report of a crash that occurred on I-73 south, near West Steeple Chase Road in Guilford County. According to a press release from the NC Highway Patrol, 55-year-old Clyde Strickland, of Raeford, N.C. was walking south on I-73 when he was struck by a vehicle. Strickland received serious life-threatening injuries and was transported to Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro. On Monday, April 22nd, the Highway Patrol was notified by medical staff that Strickland had succumbed to injuries. On Monday March 4th, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., NC DOT will be closing the right lane at mile markers 84 and 83, located just north of the W Academy Street exit for road work. Pedestrian Struck and Killed on I-73 Identified by SHP

ASHEBORO N.C. - A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle and died on scene on I-73 last Friday has been identified by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. At 9:36 p.m. on Friday, November 18 th , 2022, the State Highway Patrol responded to the report of a crash that occurred on I-73 southbound near Pineview Road in Randolph County. Nestor Aroldo Oliveros Ramos, 41, of Lexington, N.C., was traveling as a pedestrian west across I-73 when he was struck by an SUV traveling south. The driver was unable to avoid the pedestrian and Ramos died on scene. Investigators believe that Ramos was under the influence of alcohol when he was struck. Credit PJ Ward-Brown / North State Journal ASHEBORO N.C. - A traffic back-up up on I-73 NB near the Spero Rd exit north of Asheboro is the result of Troopers with the Highway Patrol's Collision Reconstruction Unit who are on-scene investigating the fatal accident that killed 2 children earlier this week. ASHEBORO NC - A total of ten vehicles were involved in three separate, but related crashes, this morning on I-73 near Vision Drive. According to a press release by the NC Highway Patrol, at 6:19 AM on Monday, March 1st, 2021, troopers responded to I-73 near Vision Drive to a report of multiple vehicle accidents. According to an official statement, the incident started when Ronald Wheeler, 60, of Albemarle N.C., was traveling north in a 2012 Peterbilt tractor-trailer in the left lane. (Trexler Trucking, Inc. is listed as the registered owner). Deizer Hernandez, 27, of Biscoe N.C., was traveling north in a 2005 Nissan passenger car in the right lane.
