ASHEBORO N.C. - A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle and died on scene on I-73 last Friday has been identified by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. At 9:36 p.m. on Friday, November 18 th , 2022, the State Highway Patrol responded to the report of a crash that occurred on I-73 southbound near Pineview Road in Randolph County. Nestor Aroldo Oliveros Ramos, 41, of Lexington, N.C., was traveling as a pedestrian west across I-73 when he was struck by an SUV traveling south. The driver was unable to avoid the pedestrian and Ramos died on scene. Investigators believe that Ramos was under the influence of alcohol when he was struck. Credit PJ Ward-Brown / North State Journal ASHEBORO N.C. - A traffic back-up up on I-73 NB near the Spero Rd exit north of Asheboro is the result of Troopers with the Highway Patrol's Collision Reconstruction Unit who are on-scene investigating the fatal accident that killed 2 children earlier this week. According to Master Trooper Brian Martin, Troop D Public Information Officer with the Highway Patrol, the Collision Reconstruction Unit is on-scene investigating a previous fatal collision and requested assistance from the fire department to shut down the exit ramp (not the interstate) so that they could map the scene with a drone. ASHEBORO NC - A total of ten vehicles were involved in three separate, but related crashes, this morning on I-73 near Vision Drive. According to a press release by the NC Highway Patrol, at 6:19 AM on Monday, March 1st, 2021, troopers responded to I-73 near Vision Drive to a report of multiple vehicle accidents.  According to an official statement, the incident started when Ronald Wheeler, 60, of Albemarle N.C., was traveling north in a 2012 Peterbilt tractor-trailer in the left lane. (Trexler Trucking, Inc. is listed as the registered owner). Deizer Hernandez, 27, of Biscoe N.C., was traveling north in a 2005 Nissan passenger car in the right lane.
