[Scott Pelkey | North State Journal] ASHEBORO N.C. – At a joint press conference, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office announced a new task force and plans for a fusion center in Randolph County, all dedicated to combating child trafficking and exploitation. In August of this year the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office participated in ‘Operation Child Predator,’ leading to the arrest of nineteen individuals for sex crimes. “That operation opened the eyes of several people across the state” said Randolph County Sheriff Greg Seabolt at the press conference. “The operation proved that child abuse, trafficking, and exploitation are much more prevalent than most people know or are willing to admit.” North Carolina is ranked ninth in the nation for human trafficking with sex trafficking...

ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office has made two arrests in two separate cases after receiving information regarding allegations of sexual offenses involving minors. On January 13th, 2023, the Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Detectives brought charges against Bernard Joseph McSweeney for four counts of felony disseminating obscenities. On January 23, 2023, McSweeney was apprehended by the Criminal Apprehension Team onHewitt St. in Greensboro, NC.  He was transported to the Randolph County Jail and taken beforethe magistrate who issued a secured bond in the amount of $ 25,000 and had a first appearance onJanuary 24th, 2023, in Randolph County District Court. ASHEBORO NC - The Randolph County Sheriff's office announced they have made two arrests in cases involving sex crimes against children. On May 19, 2021, deputies received a report of a rape. Investigators assigned to the case were able to find enough evidence for the magistrate to find probable cause for charges against Michael Ray Roberts for two counts of Felony Indecent Liberties with a Child. Roberts was arrested at his residence in Davidson County by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office and was turned over to Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Detectives at the county line where he was transported the Randolph County jail on July 9, 2021.
