On February 14th, 2024, just before 6 p.m. Troopers with the N.C. Highway Patrol responded to a crash on Old Liberty Rd, in front of the entrance to the parking lot for the Liberty Police Department. According to the accident investigation, 50-year-old Kevin Robert Carey of Siler City, while making a left turn into the parking lot of the Liberty Police Department, crossed into the path of an oncoming vehicle in the opposite lane of travel, resulting in both vehicles colliding. LIBERTY N.C. -  Several law enforcement agencies as part of the Invictus Project Task Force arrested a Greensboro man who allegedly traveled to Liberty to meet a child. On January 12th, 2024, the Liberty Police Department along with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office SERT and investigations units, members of The Invictus Project Task Force, NC SBI, Davie County Sheriff's Office, Roxboro Police Department, and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations, assisted Gaston County Police Department in the conclusion of a multi-agency investigation by arresting an individual by the name of William Russell Gaffney, 62 years old, of Greensboro, NC, according to a press release. LIBERTY N.C. - A Fort Bragg soldier is in the Randolph County Jail tonight after police say he traveled to Liberty after soliciting sex with a child. In April of 2023, Liberty Police began an investigation regarding a sex crime involving a child. That investigation revealed that a Fort Brag solider had agreed to pay a family member for sex with a handicapped child. On May 6th, 2023, the soldier, identified by police as Schuyler Grant Naves, was arrested when he arrived in Liberty. He is currently being held on a $1,000,000 bond at the Randolph County Jail and is scheduled to appear in Randolph County Court on June 2nd, 2023. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers the misuse of opioid medications an epidemic. Proper disposal of expired, unused, and unneeded medications from the home is a crucial element of a strategy for promoting public health and safety. Each day, approximately 2,500 teenagers use prescription drugs to get high for the first time. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man who shot at officers during a standoff in Liberty back in 2020 has been indicted by a Grand Jury and is facing multiple charges including Felony Attempted Murder. On September 13, 2020, deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office along with officers from the Liberty Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Hwy 49 N, just outside the Liberty city limits, regarding a domestic call and shots were fired inside the residence. The suspect, Robert Dwight Bender, had retreated into a structure behind the residence and the caller was safely removed from the house. The Town of Liberty announced the news on their Facebook page on Wednesday October 13th 2021. The post said that Facebook removed the page for “violation of community standards” and that Facebook has “refused to tell the Police Department exactly why the page had been depublished”. ASHEBORO NC – An overdose call Saturday morning led to Liberty Police finding 3 people deceased, 2 more taken to an area and hospital, and a Greensboro man being charged in connection to the deaths. According to a press release from the Liberty Police Department, Liberty Police, Fire and Randolph County EMS were called to Johnson's Mobile Home Park on W Moffitt Ave on Saturday October 16, 2021, after receiving a call about 3 unresponsive persons. When they arrived they found 3 individuals who were deceased and another 2 individuals police described as very ill. Those two persons were treated at Chatham Hospital and later released.
