Juneteenth A Juneteenth Memorial will be erected on Thursday, June 15; Friday, June 16; and Monday, June 19, in front of the Historic Randolph County Courthouse. The Memorial honors those individuals in Randolph County who were bought or sold into slavery. Low Pressure System Promises Rain for Most of Holiday Weekend

ASHEBORO N.C. - After a week of nice weather, a low-pressure system off the coast is promising to bring rain for most of the holiday weekend. According to the National Weather Service Office in Raleigh, an area of low pressure off the Southeast coast will move into the Carolinas over the weekend. Widespread rain, possibly heavy at times, will develop on Saturday and continue into Sunday. This may result in flooding of low lying or poor drainage areas. ASHEBORO N.C. - The National Weather Service Office in Raleigh has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook with severe storms expected Tuesday afternoon and into the evening. According to forecasters, strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across much of the Piedmont of North Carolina this afternoon and evening, with the highest risk over the Triad region, including all of Randolph County. Some storms may produce damaging winds over 60 mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. The greatestthreat will occur between 3 PM and 10 PM. In addition, isolated flooding is possible where multiple storms pass repeatedly over the same areas. The Storm Prediction Center has placed this area at a Level 2 (out of 5) risk of severe storms. Fort Bragg Soldier Arrested for Sex Crime in Liberty

LIBERTY N.C. - A Fort Bragg soldier is in the Randolph County Jail tonight after police say he traveled to Liberty after soliciting sex with a child. In April of 2023, Liberty Police began an investigation regarding a sex crime involving a child. That investigation revealed that a Fort Brag solider had agreed to pay a family member for sex with a handicapped child. On May 6th, 2023, the soldier, identified by police as Schuyler Grant Naves, was arrested when he arrived in Liberty. He is currently being held on a $1,000,000 bond at the Randolph County Jail and is scheduled to appear in Randolph County Court on June 2nd, 2023. Storywalks are panels with pages of a children’s book spaced along the path in local parks, allowing children and families to take in a story along with their walk. More than 12.5 million in Funding Approved for Liberty Wastewater Treatment Plant

ASHEBORO N.C. - Late last month Governor Cooper announced millions of dollars in water and sewer infrastructure funding projects for communities across North Carolina including more than 12.5 million for Wastewater Collection System Improvements for the town of Liberty. In a press release on February 24th, 2023, House Democratic Leader Robert Reives announced that $12.5 million had been allocated for wastewater collection system improvements in Liberty, as well as a $400,000 grant for pre-construction planning. Approval is still needed from the Local Government Commission (LGC). ASHEBORO N.C. - A wanted man is facing multiple charges after authorities say while attempting to flee from deputies the suspect rammed a patrol car before almost crashing into a home earlier this week. According to a press release, on December 26th, 2022, Deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office were searching the Ramseur/Liberty areas for Jimmy Ray Pearson, who had multiple outstanding warrants. A deputy observed Pearson's vehicle traveling north on Ramseur Julian Rd. Additional deputies responded and a traffic stop was initiated but Pearson refused to stop and continued on Colonial Trading Path.
