ASHEBORO N.C. - A convicted felon with a shotgun strapped to his motorcycle was arrested after crashing into a patrol vehicle earlier this week, according to police.  On December 5th, 2023, a deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was on a call on Clifton Dr. in Archdale. According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, a motorcycle traveling south on Clifton Drive with no headlights struck the deputies patrol vehicle in the rear.  The operator, identified by the Sheriff’s Office as Thurman Earl Sampson, came to rest in front of the vehicle and was evaluated by Randolph County EMS.  While inspecting the damage to the vehicles, the deputy located a shotgun strapped on the motorcycle, and discovered that Sampson, the driver, is a convicted felon.  ...

[Scott Pelkey | North State Journal] ASHEBORO N.C.- A driver was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident on I-73/74 late Monday night that shutdown the interstate for nearly three hours. Just after 10:30 p.m. Asheboro Fire/Rescue Department, Randolph County EMS, Asheboro Police, and the Randolph County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer on I-73/74 northbound, near the Sunset Ave exit. The State Highway Patrol was also notified of the crash and Troopers responded to investigate. RANDLEMAN N.C. - A driver who crashed head on into another vehicle while going the wrong way on I-73/74 near Randleman last weekend is facing several charges including DUI and child abuse. Shortly before midnight, Randolph County 911 had received a call from a driver who was taking the Randleman exit off I-73/74 onto West Academy St and reported they were nearly hit by a car that had entered the exit ramp going the wrong direction. Randolph County 911 notified both local police and deputies in the area as well as the highway patrol. At 5:57 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8th, 2023, the State Highway Patrol responded to the report of a crash that occurred on US 220 Business at Industrial Park Avenue in Randolph County. An 18-year-old driver of a 2022 Honda Accord passenger vehicle was traveling north on US 220 Business when they attempted to make a left turn onto Industrial Park Avenue from US 220. ASHEBORO N.C. – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a driver attempting to pass another car early this morning. According to a press release from the N.C. Highway Patrol, at 5:38 am, On Monday, February 6th, 2023, Troopers responded to a crash that occurred on Prospect Street near Turnpike Road in Randolph County. Troopers say that Dredrick Shavonte Cooper, 32, of Thomasville, N.C., was traveling north on Prospect Street operating a 2000 Lincoln LS passenger vehicle. Joseph Kennth Rowbottom, 49, of Archdale, N.C., was a pedestrian walking north on the southbound shoulder of Prospect Street. ASHEBORO N.C. - A vehicle crash in the early morning hours of November 30th, 2022, closed all southbound lanes on I-85 in Trinity leaving several people with minor injuries. Just after 4:30 am on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022, emergency crews responded to a vehicle accident on I-85 southbound near Hopewell Church Road in Trinity. According to information from the North Carolina Highway Patrol, David Thorman Reed, 60, of Trinity, N.C., was traveling north on I-85 in a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. According to the NC Highway Patrol, just before 2 am on May 20th 2022, Troopers were called to a single vehicle accident on US Hwy 64 near Mount Shepherd Rd. The driver, identified as 24-year-old Juan De Medina-Garcia of Asheboro, was traveling west on US Hwy 64 when he went off the right side of the roadway, over corrected, before traveling off the road on the left side of the roadway and overturning. Medina-Garcia sustained life threatening injuries as a result of the crash and was transported by EMS to Moses Cone Hospital. ASHEBORO N.C. - A driver was arrested after he almost hit a deputy head on while passing in a no passing zone then led police on a high speed chase last week. According to a press release, on February 5th 2022, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was traveling US 64 West when they were almost struck head on after a driver passed another vehicle in a no passing zone. The deputy flipped around and attempted pull over the driver who refused to stop and led police on a high speed vehicle chase. That chase ended when the driver made a turn on to Carriage Way, a dead-end road. ASHEBORO N.C. — A driver who was involved in a serious accident in Randolph County Wednesday night died from from his injuries this afternoon. The North Carolina Highway Patrol says at 8:31 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15th, 2021, Troopers responded to a crash on WOW Road near Phillips Road. Forty-Eight year old Christopher Brian Michael from Pine Hall, N.C., was driving south on WOW Road in a when he crossed the center line, traveled off the roadway to the left and overturned. The Highway Patrol says Michael wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.
