Stock Photo - (Karen Roach / Adobe Stock) ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office would like to get the word out to citizens about a phone scam in which scammers claim they are with the Sheriff's Office and attempt to get citizens to "pay a fine" or be arrested. The Sheriff's Office says they have received multiple reports of someone calling citizens in the county pretending to be a Deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, stating the individual missed a mandated appearance for Jury Duty and need to pay a fine to avoid being arrested. These scammers are using a technique called "spoofing" to make it appear that they are calling from the Sheriff's Office. Temporary Closures Upcoming for U.S. 421 in Randolph County

Department of Transportation will perform nightly closures of the southbound lanes of U.S. 421 next week in Randolph County, weather permitting. From 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Sept. 25 to Sept. 28, crews from Ames Construction plan to close U.S. 421 South as part of ongoing interchange work. A signed detour to Shiloh Road will be in place during the southbound closure. Lane closures with no detour will be in place during the same timeframe for on Sept 29, and Oct 2-6. Work constructing the buildings and infrastructure is expected to be completed by fall of 2024. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Asheboro Fire & Rescue Department says no one was injured in a commercial structure fire in Asheboro yesterday morning. According to a press release, at 08:35 a.m. fire crews were dispatched to 2520 N Fayetteville St in Asheboro for a report of a comercial structure fire. The first unit arrived on scene just three minutes after being dispatched at 08:38 a.m. and reported finding a single-story commercial metal building with heavy smoke showing. Ten crews with a total of twenty-two fire personnel were able to get the fire under control by 09:01 a.m. Asheboro Police Department, Randolph County Emergency Services, and Duke Energy were all on scene providing assistance, and Westside Fire Department sent a fire crew to Station 1 to fill in until units ...

On September 11th, 2023, the American Red Cross announced that the national blood supply has fallen to critically low levels that could potentially threatening the emergency medical care of patients and those with medical conditions who depend on blood transfusions. A 25% drop in donations since August blamed on one of the busiest travel seasons on record and back-to-back months of worsening climate-driven disasters resulting in cancelations of blood drives combined to reduce blood and platelet donations. ASHEBORO N.C. - A suspect wanted in a sex crime case in Colorado was located and arrested in Asheboro last week. On August 24th, 2023, a detective with the Boulder Police Department in Boulder, Colorado, contacted the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT) about locating Nehemias Lopez, who was wanted on a Felony Sexual Assault-Physically Helpless charge.   Boulder Police Department had been actively looking for Lopez for several months and believed that Lopez had fled from Colorado to Asheboro, NC.
