ASHEBORO, N.C. (City of Asheboro) – Registration is currently underway for the 2024 Randolph County Senior Games.  The 2024 Games will be held March 6 – April 17. Randolph County Senior Games is a health and wellness promotion and education program for adult’s age 50 and better.  Senior Games not only offers athletic events but the SilverArts, a program for artisans and craftspeople.  While some participants are serious competitors, most are more interested in having fun, learning something new, and making new friends.  The Randolph County Senior Games truly has “Something for the Artist and Athlete in Everyone”. Department of Transportation is seeking public input on plans to extend the Deep Rivier Trail in Randleman. The proposed project would extend the existing 1-mile Deep River Nature Trail in Randleman on both ends, creating a 5.6-mile trail segment along the Deep River that includes a scenic natural surface trail loop in a Deep River oxbow near Randleman Lake. The Deep River Trail expansion is one of 10 projects identified as part of the Great Trails State Implementation Report as having the most impact and being most ready for implementation. At 6:53 a.m. West-Side Fire & Rescue along with Ash-Rand Rescue, and Randolph County EMS were dispatched to NC 49, near Oak Hollow Drive for a two-vehicle accident. First responders arrived to find a two-vehicle accident with multiple patients, including one patient who was pinned-in a vehicle. The North Carolina Highway was notified and responded to investigate the crash. On the February 9th 2024, at around 9:30 a.m. officers from the Asheboro Police Department were dispatched to 611 East Central Avenue, Apartment C, in reference to a reported assault. According to a press release, officers spoke with the victim who advised she was assaulted by her boyfriend, identified by police as Matthew Thomas Watts.  The victim told officers Watts was inside the residence with their 4-month-old child. According to a press release, the scam works like this: The scammer calls a family member using either a blocked caller ID or one that says something official like, “State of North Carolina,” and tells them that their loved one could be released from jail with an electronic ankle monitor (sometimes called electronic house arrest or EHA) for either a flat fee of several hundred dollars and/or a monthly 'monitoring' fee. (City of Asheboro) - The City of Asheboro, along with the Asheboro Police Department, would like to announce that after nearly 32 years of dedicated service to the City of Asheboro and its citizens, Chief Mark Lineberry plans to retire effective March 1, 2024. Chief Lineberry started his career in law enforcement in May 1992 at the Asheboro Police Department. Lineberry worked as a patrol officer and detective until October 2001 when he was promoted to Sergeant. Lineberry rose through the ranks ultimately being selected as Chief of Police in October 2019. ASHEBORO N.C. - Early voting dates and locations for the 2024 Primary Election in Randolph County have been announced by the Randolph County Board of Elections. Early voting will start on Thursday, February 15th, 2024, and run through Saturday March 2nd, 2024. Weekdays early voting will be from 8 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. with different hours on weekends and not early voting held on Saturday, February 24th, or Sunday, February 25th, 2024. The Primary Election will be on March 5th, 2024 – 6:30 a.m. -7:30 p.m. You must vote at your assigned voting precinct site on Election Day.
