Freeze Warning Issued For Randolph County For Friday

ASHEBORO NC - The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a freeze warning from 2 AM to 10 AM on Friday. Temperatures as low as 30 degrees are expected in Randolph and surrounding counties. Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. The National Weather Service says now is the time to take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

NWS Issues Flash Flood Warning As Water Rescues Underway

FLASH FLOOD WARNING ASHEBORO NC - The National Weather Service in Raleigh has placed North-west Randolph County under a Flash Flood Warning until at least 8:45 PM. The warning which was issued just before 7 PM came as rescue first responders were involved in two separate rescues of trapped motorist. Weather Service officials said Emergency Management had reported strong thunderstorms producing heavy rain and flooded roadways with reports of between 2.5 and 3.5 inches of rain. The Level Cross Fire Department along with Ash-Rand Rescue were called to Randleman lake after for a boat caught in the storm, began taking on water while stuck on a stump in the lake. With the first storms already brewing weather experts are saying this year's seasons will be another active one.  NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center is calling for a 60% chance of an above-normal season and only a 10% chance of a below-normal season. ASHEBORO NC - It seems Randolph County was spared the worst of yesterday's storms, but just barely. The National Weather Service in Raleigh confirmed that 2 tornadoes touched down in the Triad yesterday. The closest an EF-0 which struck High Point, just a few miles over the county line. Following yesterday's storms, the National Weather Service in Raleigh sent survey teams to look over the damage to determine if radar indicated rotation and reports of funnel clouds was actually a tornado that touched down. HIGH POINT The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-0 tornado touched down in High Point for around 5 minutes with winds of 85 MPH for a distance of approximately 1 mile. ASHEBORO NC [ARCHIVED] - All week meteorologists across the triad have been closely following the forecast models trying to figure out what's going to happen on Friday. Now the National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Randolph County starting at 1 AM Friday night through 1 AM Saturday morning.  According to the National Weather Service office in Raleigh, Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches with isolated areas to 3 inches are possible beginning Thursday night through Friday night.  In a briefing posted online the National Weather Service says where the snow does accumulate snapped trees and subsequent power outages are possible.
