ASHEBORO N.C. – Today, Highway Patrol investigators are scheduled to confer with the District Attorney’s Office to review potential charges stemming from a vehicle accident involving a Ramseur officer. According to a press release from the Highway Patrol, at 9:25 p.m. on Thursday, February 22nd, 2024, Troopers responded to the report of a vehicle crash on US 64 at NC 49 in Ramseur. Investigators say 27-year-old Brandon Michael Schultheis was driving west on US 64 in a 2013 Dodge Charger police vehicle owned by the Town of Ramseur when he failed to stop at a traffic signal striking a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze. On May 22nd, 2021 we reported that the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) had confirmed they had opened an investigation into allegations of misconduct made against Sheriff Seabolt. (Scott Pelkey / Acme News Archive) ASHEBORO NC - Just over a year after a vehicle chase ended in a fatal shooting at the NC Zoo, the Randolph County District's Attorney office has completed its investigation clearing the deputies of any wrongdoing. In the early morning hours of Jan. 7th, 2020, the suspect, twenty-one-year-old Troy Chase Caster, who was being sought by police in Rowan county for allegedly robbing a female cab driver at gunpoint led deputies on a chase from Rowan County through Stanly County and Davidson County and into Randolph County. The chase at times went in excess of 100 mph. Deputies reported that Caster was firing shots at the deputies before driving toward the Africa entrance of the NC Zoo.
