ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office has charged a local man with embezzling several thousand dollars from a local baseball club. On October 14th, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into suspected embezzlement after receiving a report from a local community baseball club. According to a press release, that investigation led to investigators charging 37-year-old Jesse Lee Martin from Denton, NC, with one count of Felony Embezzlement on August 10th, 2023. According to court records, Martin is accused of embezzling $3,600 from the Cedar Grove Baseball Club, a local little league organization. TRINITY N.C. - A search warrant issued as a part of a joint investigation located nearly 30,000 Fentanyl pills at a home in Trinity and landed one person in jail. On August 9th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit and Criminal Interdiction Team, Asheboro Police Department’s Vice Unit, and the Department of Homeland Security's Investigation division (HSI), executed a search warrant on a residence located at 6503 Bellawood Dr. in Trinity. According to a press release, that search located approximately 28,400 Fentanyl pills that weighed approximately 12.5 pounds, along with U.S. Currency. The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, has placed most of central North Carolina under an Enhanced Risk of severe weather today. An Enhanced Risk indicates there is a larger area with widespread chances of low-to-moderate intensity severe thunderstorms. Starting August 21st and running through 25th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office will be collecting school supplies in front of the Asheboro Walmart from 9 am – 1 pm each day. [Scott Pelkey | North State Journal] ASHEBORO N.C. - One person was airlifted with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle on E Dixie Dr last Friday. On Friday, July 28th, 2023, at around 7:30 pm, emergency crews were called to the scene of a vehicle collision where a pedestrian was struck on E Dixie Dr near Zaxby's. According to an accident report from the Asheboro Police Department, a 2005 Nissan SUV was traveling west on E Dixie Dr near Executive Way when a pedestrian stepped into the roadway and was struck by the vehicle.
