Department of Transportation is seeking public input on plans to extend the Deep Rivier Trail in Randleman. The proposed project would extend the existing 1-mile Deep River Nature Trail in Randleman on both ends, creating a 5.6-mile trail segment along the Deep River that includes a scenic natural surface trail loop in a Deep River oxbow near Randleman Lake. The Deep River Trail expansion is one of 10 projects identified as part of the Great Trails State Implementation Report as having the most impact and being most ready for implementation. At 6:53 a.m. West-Side Fire & Rescue along with Ash-Rand Rescue, and Randolph County EMS were dispatched to NC 49, near Oak Hollow Drive for a two-vehicle accident. First responders arrived to find a two-vehicle accident with multiple patients, including one patient who was pinned-in a vehicle. The North Carolina Highway was notified and responded to investigate the crash. On the February 9th 2024, at around 9:30 a.m. officers from the Asheboro Police Department were dispatched to 611 East Central Avenue, Apartment C, in reference to a reported assault. According to a press release, the scam works like this: The scammer calls a family member using either a blocked caller ID or one that says something official like, “State of North Carolina,” and tells them that their loved one could be released from jail with an electronic ankle monitor (sometimes called electronic house arrest or EHA) for either a flat fee of several hundred dollars and/or a monthly 'monitoring' fee. Early voting will start on Thursday, February 15th, 2024, and run through Saturday March 2nd, 2024. NC Zoo | Desert Dome Welcomes Pair of Rare African Birds

[Scott Pelkey | North State Journal] ASHEBORO N.C. – The Desert Dome at the North Carolina Zoo recently became the new home to a pair of rare African birds. Several months ago, two Von der Decken's Hornbills arrived at the North Carolina Zoo. Jake, the male, who came from the Los Angeles Zoo, and Zuri, the female, who came from the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in New York. After spending around a month in quarantine, a standard precaution, the pair were introduced to each other and now reside together in the Desert Dome. Von der Decken's Hornbills (Tockus deckeni) are a distinctive species of birds found in the arid regions of East Africa, particularly in Somalia, Kenya, and Tanzania. No Injuries After Fire at Georgia Pacific Plant in Asheboro

(Stock Photo / Acme News Archive) ASHEBORO N.C. – No one was injured after a reported commercial fire at the Georgia Pacific Plant in Asheboro earlier this week. On January 29th, 2024, at 1:01 p.m. Asheboro Fire and Rescue Department (AFRD) was dispatched to a commercial fire at 200 McDowell Rd. The first unit arrived on scene at 1:04 p.m., reporting nothing showing from the exterior of the building. A representative with the company told fire crews there was a fire in one of the machines at the plant. Firefighters were able to locate and extinguish the fire and the incident was under control at 1:20 p.m. All personnel from the plant had been evacuated prior to the arrival of the fire department, and no injuries were reported.
