Photo Provided By Kim Rush Hoogkamp ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Fire Marshal's Office (RCFMO) is trying to determine what sparked a fire at a maintenance building at the Tot Hill Farm Golf Course earlier this week. Randolph County 911 received the first call about the fire at 11:36am on Tuesday, January 25, 2022. The caller reported a building was on fire at at 2382 Doul Mtn. Rd at the Tot Hill Farm Golf Course. Crews from Ulah, East Side and Westside Fire Departments all responded along with Randolph County EMS and Emergency Management. Kim Rush Hoogkamp who nearby, captured several photos showing the aftermath of the fire. In a press release RCPH said the department is now offering N95 masks for the general public. Each individual will get one pack that includes three masks. One pack per person. These packs must be picked up at the front desk of the Randolph County Public Health Department: 2222-B South Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.

ASHEBORO N.C. - This week family, friends, and fellow co-worker are mourning the loss of Joey Thompson, who passed away peacefully at High Point Regional Hospital on Monday January 24th 2022, after a long and hard fight, with COVID-19. Thompson began working at the Randolph County 9-1-1 center in 2013 where he was known for his unique deep voice and playful sense of humor. Due to COVID restrictions the family decided to do a virtual service so all may honor him. (NC ZOO) – With recently confirmed cases of avian flu in wild birds found in eastern North Carolina, the North Carolina Zoo is taking the precautionary measure of closing its Aviary habitat to the public. For birds, Avian flu is a highly contagious viral disease that can affect several species of birds, including domestic poultry and wild birds. ASHEBORO N.C. - A call about possible drug activity led police to locating a suspect who had fled on foot and escaped earlier in the day. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office on January 21st, 2022, a deputy in the area of Hwy 64 E near Asheboro observed a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle stolen from Old Cox Rd reported stolen on December 29th, 2021. The Sheriff’s Office says the deputy followed the vehicle to the Dollar General on US Hwy 64 E, where police say the suspect fled on foot.Additional deputies and a K-9 were dispatched to help locate the suspect but the K9 lost the scent on Loflin Pond Road.
