SBI Investigates Inmate Death at Randolph County Jail

ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office along with the SBI is investigating the death of an inmate earlier this month at the Randolph County Jail. On July 18th, 2022, shortly before 9:00 am, an inmate at the Randolph County Jail was found unresponsive by detention center staff conducting medical rounds. According to a press release, medical staff and officers performed CPR until EMS arrived. The inmate was transported to Randolph Health where he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. The SBI has been notified of the incident and is investigating the death along with the Sheriff's Office’s Criminal Investigations Division. ASHEBORO NC – Two officers helped a stranded motorist push his car into a parking lot before they ended up arresting him. According to a press release by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office on October 14, 2021, one of their deputies and an SBI agent stopped to help a driver whose car had broken down on McDowell Road near the Sherriff's Office. The two officers helped push the vehicle into the parking lot when they say they noticed the driver was under the influence. The driver, identified as Ricardo Palacios, had an outstanding Order for Arrest for Failure to Appear for Resisting a Public Officer and was placed under arrest. ASHEBORO NC - Earlier this week the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) confirmed they had opened an investigation into allegations of misconduct made against Randolph County Sheriff Greg Seabolt. The investigation was requested on May 5th by Randolph County District Attorney Andy Gregson. Gregson said he received complaints that Sherriff Seabolt was using a county-issued vehicle to haul campaign signs. One of those complaints was filed by former candidate for Randolph County Sheriff Erick Hicks.
