Smoke from Canadian Wildfires can be seen blanketing Asheboro near the Interstate on June 6th, 2023. (Scott Pelkey / RNN-North State Journal) ASHEBORO N.C. - Smoke from wildfires in eastern Canada has triggered a Code Orange Air Quality alert across much of North Carolina, and tomorrow will be worse with officials already issuing a Code Red Air Quality Alert for Wednesday. Wildfires have burned nearly one million acres over the past two weeks across Western Canada, producing incredibly large plumes of smoke that have stretched across the North American continent, making their way into North Carolina throughout today. Smoke, No Fire at Hobby Lobby in Asheboro Overnight

ASHEBORO N.C. - Firefighters responded to the Hobby Lobby in Asheboro late last night for a fire alarm and found smoke but no fire. Late last night between 10 and 11pm, Asheboro Fire and Rescue Deptartment was dispatched to 1422 E Dixie Dr, in Asheboro for a report of a fire alarm. Crews arrived to find smoke in the building but were not able to locate any fire. According to information from the department this morning, the source of the smoke was determined to be a compacter motor that had locked up. The extent of the damage is undetermined.

Sewer System Smoke Testing Starts in Ramseur Today

According to an announcement on Facebook, starting today, April 3, 2023, the Town of Ramseur will be smoke testing all sanitary sewer lines in this area to locate defects in the sewer system. "The "smoke" that you see coming from the vent stacks on houses or holes in the ground or streets is non-toxic, harmless and creates no fire hazard. Smoke should not enter your house unless you have defective plumbing or dried up drain traps. Should smoke enter your home, you may contact a member of the smoke testing crew working in the area."
