Inmate Damages and Sets Off Fire Sprinkler at Jail Charged with Felony

ASHEBORO N.C. - An inmate at the Randolph County Jail has been charged with a felony for damaging a sprinkler head setting off the system last week.
According to a press release from the Randolph County Sherriff's Office, on August 7th, 2023, Mason Bryce Wooten was observed in surveillance footage striking a sprinkler head in his cell, setting off the system in his cell, at the Randolph County Jail.
The jail launched an investigation which found Wooten had intentionally damaged the sprinkler head which lead to a felony charge of interfering with jail fire system and misdemeanor charges of injury to real property and assault on government employee in connection with the incident.
